Calendar:

Certified Exempt, 187 workdays

New Hire Experience:

$500 for each full-time year of certified teaching or verified like experience

New Hire Education:

$65/hour of graduate level credits: BA 45 hours max, MA 60 hours max $1000 for advanced degrees

 

Job Summary:

 

The Interventionist – Student Support is a site-based position. The teacher will provide Tier 1 SEL support for all students on a campus and will consult with administration, counseling, and other teachers to support other Tier 2 needs of students with more specialized needs in the areas of academics, attendance, and social-emotional behaviors. The Interventionist – Student Support will work closely with the counseling team to evaluate the SEL needs of the school and co-create action steps to address those needs campus-wide

 

Candidates must complete an on-line application which requires appropriate Arizona certification, valid IVP Arizona fingerprint clearance card, evidence of highly qualified status, three letters of recommendation, and transcript of credits.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the school counselor(s) and teachers with implementing a comprehensive Tier 1 SEL program based on the ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs, which monitors student progress and provides personalized support for students who are not on track to graduate within four years
  • Work with the school counselor(s) to identify Tier 2 SEL supports for students who need additional social-emotional behavior support and coordinate efforts with the school counselor(s)
  • Serve on any school based MTSS, SEL, or other mental health related teams as a subject matter expert
  • Support administrators, counselors, and teachers in addressing root causes of student social-emotional and behavioral needs
  • Support 504 referral, evaluation, and accommodation processes for students in one’s caseload
  • Develop and provide professional learning for staff based on the Tier 1 SEL needs of the campus, as identified by available data
  • Stay current on trends and best practices related to SEL
  • Coach staff in developing referral, assessment, and progress monitoring systems to coordinate SEL supports
  • Support school in developing community partnerships and linkages for social services and behavioral health supports for high-risk student
  • Communicate with students and families to increase student engagement, attendance, and knowledge of community resources
  • Assist the counseling department and administration in crisis intervention and emergency response teams
  • Display ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
  • Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools 

Required Qualifications:

 

To be eligible for this position, an applicant must meet the following required qualifications. Verification of these required qualifications is necessary. 

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, child development, counseling or a relate field
  • Masters degree (Preferred) in education, psychology, social work, child development, counseling or a relate field
  • Arizona teaching certificate 

Experience: 

  • Minimum five years successful classroom teaching or related experience
  • Experience and knowledge in the principles of applied behavior analysis including the development of functional behavior assessments and positive behavior intervention plans
  • Hands-on experience developing or implementing SEL programs in schools or community settings.
  • Experience working with at-risk youth or students with emotional or behavioral challenges

  • Proficiency in using computers, projectors, and digital platforms to deliver SEL programs
  • Proficiency in creating inclusive and trauma-informed environments
  • Data collection and analysis to measure program effectiveness
