Vision for Position: At Hixson Middle School, we view alternative programming as a collection of meaningful and effective services, options, and interventions that are designed to help all students succeed.
Primary Objective: The person hired for this position will be responsible for planning, administering and directing the Hixson Middle School alternative programming that affirms the district's commitment to lead efforts to advance a culture of equity and justice.
Essential Functions:
- Establish, implement, and monitor procedures for the screening, placement, evaluation, assignment of students with tier 3 social emotional needs.
- Engage families in learning about the services provided through alternative programming at Hixson.
- Serve as liaison for alternative programming and provide professional learning for staff on topics that include but are not limited to Trauma Informed Care, Restorative Practices, and/or Social Emotional Learning.
- Communicate with parents/guardians and students regarding individualized plans for students who access services offered through alternative programming.
- Evaluate alternative education programming to ensure that program objectives are being met.
- Assess and identify student and family needs and provide recommendations to counselors administration.
- Assist with transitioning students who have been out on a long term absence back to the general education school setting.
- Facilitate Restorative processes with students engaged in conflict with others.
- Facilitate interagency planning between the school and outside service providers, including Epworth Children and Family Services.
- Collaborate with special educators to coordinate services for students with IEPs who access services provided through alternative programming.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping of students receiving services through alternative programming.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW)
Licensure/Certification: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Key Competencies/Skills/Experience: Experience with adolescent learners preferred, crisis intervention, individual and/or group mental health/therapeutic service provider, knowledge of supporting individuals who struggle with substance abuse, trauma informed care, restorative practices, social emotional learning, self starter/motivator, strong relationship builder, community resources, strong communicator, strong presentation skills
