General Statement of Duties:
Position is responsible for maintaining academic and non-academic chemical storage, use and waste
guidelines. Responsible for reports to local/state/national agencies for compliance regarding chemical
training, use and disposal. They will identify, enhance, and implement appropriate safety practices for
academic and research activities conducted in the science laboratories and maintain the safety
equipment in these laboratories (teaching and research). Depending on expertise, individual can teach
up to 6 credit hours per semester in undergraduate Chemistry courses or Graduate Environmental
Management courses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Work with units to maintain and update Webster University's chemical labeling guidelines,
chemical hygiene plan, chemical storage program, and chemical spill response program.
Ensure that all laboratory documents are in order, update the chemical inventory, make sure
chemical storage practices are prudent and comply standards, and utilize Webster University's
chemical labeling guidelines.
Coordinate OSHA HazCom training and the proper response for any spills for faculty, students
and staff of appropriate departments at Webster University.
Use the Webster University chemical hygiene plan template and coordinate implementation and
testing of the laboratory-specific chemical hygiene including eye wash and safety showers.
Maintain the chemical spill clean-up kit, ensure that all waste containers have the proper waste
labels, and routinely conduct a complete safety and health inspection of laboratories/areas of
hazardous chemical use.
Arrange for disposal of chemical waste every six months with approved companies.
Work with the department faculty on organization, scheduling, as well as the cleaning and
maintenance of instruments and equipment for science classes. Coordinate with vendors for
maintenance agreements and repairs.
Teach up to 6 credit hours per semester for the department depending on expertise.

Education: Bachelor's Degree Required; Graduate Degree Preferred
License or Certification: Will need to obtain relevant certifications
