Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, full-time Title Examiner to join our Rochester office. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and examining public records to determine property ownership, restrictions, and encumbrances affecting real estate titles for both residential and commercial properties.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough searches of public records including deeds, mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, and other documents affecting real property
- Analyze complex chain of title documentation to determine ownership rights
- Identify potential title defects, restrictions, and encumbrances
- Prepare comprehensive title reports and commitments
- Coordinate with attorneys, lenders, and other stakeholders to resolve title issues
- Maintain accurate digital and physical records of all searches and findings
- Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices
- Assist with special projects as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in title examination, real estate law, or related field
- Strong knowledge of real estate terminology and documentation
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Proficiency with title software and research databases
- Ability to read and interpret legal documents
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with both residential and commercial title examination
- Familiarity with Monroe County and surrounding counties' recording systems
- Knowledge of New York State real property law
- Experience with title insurance underwriting guidelines
- Certification as a Title Examiner or Abstractor
- Full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday)
- Office environment with potential for hybrid or remote after training
