What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Waterfront Steward position at Weekapaug Yacht Club?
The Weekapaug Yacht Club is seeking a mature, self-directed person to join our staff during the summer 2025 season as Head Steward.
In this role you would lead a small team of stewards, providing exceptional service to club members, maintaining club property and supporting club programs and events.
This is a full-time, on-site position for the months of June, July and August. Part time hours in September might be available. Your exact hours will vary depending on requirements, but some evening and weekend hours will be required.
The ideal candidate will be organized, customer-service-oriented and comfortable working in a fluid environment. You must be physically active and capable of moving sailboats and lifting sailing equipment, kayaks and paddle boards. The role involves driving and towing trailers, so a driver’s license is required. A state-issued motorboat certificate is also desirable.

The Weekapaug Yacht Club
Weekapaug Yacht Club has a 130-year history of advancing the love of small-boat sailing and racing. We have more than a thousand active members, a thriving summer sailing program and a busy calendar of member social events.
Rebuilt in 2023, our club house is a state-of-the-art facility, with immediate access to the water, and dedicated spaces for member recreation, sailing program instruction / storage, and club employees. From the 2 floor decks, members and staff enjoy breathtaking views across both the ocean and beautiful Quonochontaug pond.
Job Responsibilities
- Schedule and direct the work of a small team of stewards.
- Maintain the clubhouse and grounds in good order.
- Maintain and refuel club motorboats.
- Manage storage of sailing equipment, paddle craft and other club property - launch and put away sailboats and paddle craft as club members use them.
- Transport boats and sailing equipment to and from other local yacht clubs for regattas.
- Support logistics for club regattas and events.
- Support members in accessing club services.
- Capture day-to-day member enquiries / concerns and resolve them or relay them to club management.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience of customer service.
- “Handy” with experience of simple maintenance tasks.
- Active driving license and ability to tow a trailer safely.
- Physically active and capable of lifting heavy items.
- Knowledge of motorboats and / or sailboats is desirable.
- Highly organized with outstanding attention to detail.
- Mature, tenacious, collaborative spirit with a strong customer focus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- A state-issued motorboat certificate is also desirable.
