Principal Counsel, Business and Regulatory Affairs
This position will primarily focus on supporting legal matters regarding Weigel’s broadcast network and local station operations. This dynamic position will entail providing legal counsel to support the growing needs of Weigel, including: (1) managing regulatory efforts, including FCC compliance; (2) drafting and negotiating commercial agreements; and (3) developing and implementing legal training, standards and protocols. In addition, the Principal Counsel, Business and Regulatory Affairs will strategize with management and outside counsel on business goals and legal affairs. As such, a legal background and/or related experience in the media and/or entertainment industry is required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Manager Regulatory Efforts:
- Support FCC regulatory requirements, ensure compliance and implement standards and protocols for state and federal laws.
- Assist with government affair matters, including preparation of legal filings, presentations and meetings.
- Strategic legal advisor to business and engineering teams.
- Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements:
- Oversee drafting, negotiation and closing agreements with affiliates, vendor contracts and partner agreements.
- Coordinate contracts with affiliate relations, digital, marketing, engineering, sales, programming and finance teams.
- Create processes and procedures for contract review, administration and renewal.
- Developing and Implementing Legal Training, Standards & Protocols:
- Educate teams on new laws, legal matters and trends impacting media industry.
- Help build tools and policies with internal department heads to support business goals with respect to AI, Copyright, Privacy, Advertising and Royalties.
- Coordination with Outside Counsel: Point of contact on various legal matters with internal and external counsel when necessary.
Addition Responsibilities:
- May entail supporting content licensing, human resources, production, programming, newsrooms, marketing teams and corporate teams.
Requirements:
- Familiarity with FCC regulations.
- 3 years of experience in regulatory and/or broadcast industry.
- Skilled at maintaining positive relationships with corporate executives while enforcing standards and regulatory decisions.
- Ability to make judgement calls on sensitive topics, removing personal opinions from decision-making process.
- Proven ability to manage a high volume of projects with competing deadlines.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $125,000.00-2000,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
