What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Technician (CMM Programmer) 1st Shift position at Weiler Forest Products Inc?
JOB PURPOSE:
A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a large and complex tool used to measure the dimensions of an object. A CMM operator uses the equipment to perform an inspection of components, assemblies, materials, products, machines, and tooling to determine quality and adherence to requirements and specifications.
JOB DUTIES:
- Operate portable and gantry CMMs to inspect fabricated structures and purchased components. Analyze results to determine conformance to dimensional requirements.
- Write CMM inspection programs using PCDMIS software and a deep understanding of engineering drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerance. Consult with design and process engineers when needed to understand intent of the drawings.
- Perform set-up, calibration, and maintain CMM equipment, fixtures, and facility.
- Conduct measurements in support of production quality control plans and evaluation of new components for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
- Create technical reports to summarize measurement results. Organize and store results for records retention.
- Create detailed records of defects in the Weiler CI database. Contribute to investigation of cause and identification of corrective action for quality issues as assigned by supervisor.
- Communicate inspection results to management and operations department colleagues.
- Provide feedback in a constructive and diplomatic fashion.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
- Training and experience in reading engineering drawings are highly desirable.
- Prior training and experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerance are highly desirable.
- Quality inspection experience with manufacturing operations is highly desirable.
- CMM (portable or gantry-style) and/or computer-aided machining experience is highly desirable.
- Computer literacy and experience organizing electronic files and reports are desirable.
- Experience using PCDMIS or other CMM operations software is highly desirable.
- Experience in the use of manual measurement devices (calipers, gauges, micrometers) is highly desirable.
- Experience with root cause corrective action for quality issue resolution is desirable.
