The Major Gifts Officer undertakes campaign and departmental fundraising activities—with a focus on fundraising for priorities in Brain Health areas and Geriatrics—in support of WCM. Working with department chairs, faculty, senior administrators and volunteers, the Major Gift Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors at the level of $100,000 and above.

Job Responsibilities
- Maintains current knowledge of funding needs within the scope of responsibility; identifies prospective donors for those needs.
- Plans strategies from cultivation activity to gift closure, and implements that strategy in coordination with appropriate persons; reports progress toward achievement.
- Actively works to upgrade major gift donors to the principal gifts ($1 million ) level.
- Participates in face‐to‐face briefings, solicitations, and gift negotiations in partnership with the Dean of WCM, dept. chairs, faculty, volunteers, etc.
- Ensures the proper acknowledgment and recognition for assigned donors. Monitors stewardship activities, implements reporting schedules, coordinates recognition events, etc.
- Works with donor recognition staff to coordinate, devise, and obtain approval for recognition plans and designs.
- Coordinates and facilitates volunteer activities, including volunteer committee activities to encourage successful realization of a committee’s goals.
- Communicates with faculty about campaign priorities and departmental needs. Conveys departmental needs by way of proposals, briefings, and other written materials. Serves as primary point person for physicians in donor relations.
- Bachelor's Degree in related field
- Approximately 3-5 years of direct fundraising experience, preferably in an academic/medical setting or comparable environment.
- Experience with fundraising database programs such as BBEC, Raiser’s Edge and BENefactor highly desired.
- Flexibility and skill in working with physicians, colleagues, and donors in a complex organization.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong grasp of fundraising concepts.
- Fundraising experience in an academic medical setting.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Some evening and weekend work.
- Significant travel within NYC and some out-of-town travel.
