Manufacturing Engineer Fiber Optic Assemblies – Hire for Projects
We are looking for a manufacturing engineer with work experience and an affiliation to fiber optics, optical lasers, or optical metrology instruments to work with our team at the Williamsburg, VA site for pre-defined projects:
General Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Analyze and evaluate existing manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization
- Develop and validate manufacturing processes for optical and mechanical assemblies
- Design jigs, fixtures, and custom tools to meet tight tolerances and achieve high yield
- Identify and implement effective use of measurement equipment and/or control systems to improve yield, increase throughput and/or verify features and product quality
- Support of first article builds
- Help with training of fabrication technicians in needed manufacturing techniques
- Document of production techniques in procedures including photos and videos
- Validate production processes and process capabilities
- Research, select, and implement new manufacturing equipment and technologies to support production goals
- Act as subject matter expert in specific production, fabrication, and/or manufacturing techniques
- Process input to risk management, (p)FMEA and Control Plans
- Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed process changes
Candidate is expected to finish a pre-defined project, for example, the design and introduction of a newly designed jig or manufacturing technique into operations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/ or Physics
- 3 years of working experience in manufacturing, ideally related to fiber optic assemblies and/or related to FDA-regulated medical devices
- Strong Mechanical Aptitude, and ability to develop and implement mechanical and electromechanical solutions to manufacturing problems.
- Self-Motivated and Self-Directed with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Communication skills, cooperativeness, and ability to work in a team
- Preferred: Working knowledge of software tools (MS Office, Solidworks, NX/Teamcenter)
- Effective time management skills with ability to prioritize tasks
- Ability to legally work in the United States
