What are the responsibilities and job description for the MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST ASSOCIATE - FULL TIME position at Weirton Medical Center?
A Medical Technologist associate or trainee must obtain at least 3 months of training / experience in each high complexity specialty / subspecialty in which they will perform testing. Experience may be obtained concurrently in multiple departments or in single department blocks; you are free to choose based on what works best for you. Once the individual is trained and deemed competent, they may perform testing semi-independently but must have on-site access to a supervisor at all times. After successful completion of training, they are eligible to obtain an MLS license.
Anyone with a bachelor's degree in biology or chemistry qualifies for a trainee license; this may include any subset of those concentrations, such as microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, etc. Additionally, those with a minimum number of college credits (as described below) is eligible for a trainee license for a subsequent MLT license. All education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Please be aware that the CLIA personnel regulations are being updated with an effective date of 12 / 28 / 2024. - Minimum 60 college credits with either :
24 hours of laboratory technology / science courses, or
24 hours of biology, chemistry, or laboratory technology / science courses in the following distribution :
6 hours biology
6 hours chemistry
12 hours in additional biology, chemistry, or lab courses
