Title : Special Education Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)

FLSA Status : Exempt

Reports To : Director of Learning, Assessment, and Special Populations

Pay Range : Licensed Salary Schedule

SUMMARY :

The Special Education TOSA is a position funded and supervised by Weld RE-1. This role is designed to support our special education district staff by enhancing instructional practices, providing expert consultation on IEPs and evaluations, and fostering effective transition programming and intensive learning centers. In addition, the TOSA will support as a liaison between BOCES, Weld RE-1, and the district SEAC committee, ensuring that our special education services are aligned with current best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Listed below are the essential tasks performed to achieve the purpose of this job. The frequency of each task is listed as follows : (D) daily, (W) weekly, (M) monthly, (Q) quarterly, or (A) annually. Also listed is the percentage of time each task requires on an annual basis. Professional Learning and Development

  • Deliver targeted professional development sessions for Weld RE-1 special education staff, in partnership with BOCES and district strategic plan priorities.
  • Support and coach teachers to enhance instructional practices and meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Professional learning for special education paraeducators.

IEP Support and Evaluation Assistance

  • Collaborate with teachers to develop, review, and refine Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide expert guidance during student evaluations and assessments to ensure accurate eligibility of student needs, which follows all IDEA, BOCES and CDE guidance.
  • Transition Programming

  • Work with school teams to develop and implement effective transition strategies for students moving between grade levels, schools, or post-school programs.
  • Develop and support staff working in the 18-21 year old program to ensure a smooth and effective transition process for young adults.
  • Monitor transition progress and adjust programs as needed to support student success.
  • Intensive Learning Centers

  • Support intensive learning centers, with process and procedures, professional learning, and instructional strategy support.
  • Coordinate resources and instructional strategies to optimize learning outcomes in these centers.
  • Back-Up Case Management and Substitute Support Strategies

  • Provide back-up case management support when needed to maintain continuity of student services.
  • Support building leaders with strategies to fill critical gaps, ensuring that all students receive uninterrupted educational support.
  • Liaison Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Learning, Assessment, and Special Populations as a liaison between BOCES, Weld RE-1, and the district SEAC committee.
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication among these entities and our staff by promoting collaborative problem-solving and resource sharing.
  • Collaboration and Leadership

  • Work closely with the Director of Learning, Assessment, and Special Populations to align special education initiatives and strategies district-wide.
  • Participate in district meetings, committees, and planning sessions to support continuous improvement of special education services.
  • Meeting with staff that are new to special education on a regular basis, help create schedules, set up and plan meetings, and plan instruction to meet students' IEP goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE :

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Required). Master's degree in Special Education (Preferred)
  • Valid special education certification as required by state regulations.
  • A minimum of [4 - 7) years of experience in special education, with a proven track record in IEP development, evaluations, and transition programming.
  • Demonstrated expertise in facilitating professional learning and supporting teacher development.
  • TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES :

  • Experience in a role that involved acting as a liaison between multiple educational agencies or committees.
  • Familiarity with BOCES operations and district special education committees.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a commitment to excellence in special education.
  • LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OR CERTIFICATIONS :

  • Requires a valid Colorado driver's license : YES
  • Valid special education certification as required by state regulations.
