Role :
Drives mobile services vehicles to off-site locations to assist patrons with information and educational requests, handles material check in and out, and plans and conducts programming.
Major Duties and Responsibilities :
10% - DRIVES LARGE VEHICLES - Safely drives large district vehicles such as a bookmobile that is up to 35' long and delivery vans to remote locations throughout service areas and through congested city traffic in sometimes adverse weather conditions to locations where patrons can access library services and materials. Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of district vehicles. May sometimes be required to drive personal vehicle. (Essential)
30% - PATRON ASSISTANCE VIA MOBILE SERVICES - Serves as the first point of contact for patrons in assistance with using library materials and information, guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet; and passes the patron on to a Librarian for further assistance beyond the efforts required of a reference interview. (Essential)
20% - OUTREACH PROGRAMMING - Develops and assists librarians in developing informative and entertaining programs. Represents the library at community events. Identifies audiences, recruits attendees, accesses resources in the collection and the community and coordinates such programs and outreach events in order to promote use of library resources and represent the library district to the community. These may include but are not limited to school visits, storytimes, community events, computer classes, summer reading programs, etc. (Essential)
15% - CIRCULATION - Checks out and renews materials; assists patrons with checkout and checking in materials; issues and updates library cards; and follows procedures and collects money for fines and over-dues; processes holds; checks in materials and sorts and routes the materials to their proper location in order to assist patrons with borrowing of materials. (Essential)
15% - SHELVING / COLLECTION MAINTENANCE - Processes daily courier. Shelves library materials by loading carts with returned materials; placing materials on the appropriate shelf according to Dewey decimal number, author name, or title in order to return materials to library shelves. Informs librarians about gaps in the collection in order to maintain an appealing, current, and useful collection. Restocks materials on vehicles. May also process new materials, weeding, and rerouting materials in collection. (Non-Essential)
10% - OTHER DUTIES - Assists the Supervisor in order to ensure the smooth operation of the department. Completes administrative duties and tasks. Attends departmental meetings. Participates in professional development opportunities. (Non-Essential)
Minimum Requirements :
Education :
Bachelor's Degree
Experience :
One year of related experience
Valid Colorado Driver's License and a good driving record.
Personal vehicle
Able to drive personal vehicle, large RV style bookmobile, or van to deliver programs and services.
Experience presenting and providing library services to customers who may not have literacy or technology skills (preferred)
Multicultural skills and sensitivities to ethnic, linguistic and cultural groups (preferred)
Able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently (preferred)
Or any combination of education and experience which provides the success factors.
