What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Middle School Softball Coach position at Weldon Middle School?
ATHLETIC COACH (Assistant Middle School Softball)
- Under general supervision, and in compliance with the state and local polices, the Assistant Coach has the responsibility for assisting the overall operation, management and leadership of the athletic team. Reports to the school principal and athletic director.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be a role model and leads students in the athletic program by example and in alignment with the values of Weldon City Schools.
- Trains student athletes in the proper procedures, skills, and techniques in order to help student athletes safely compete in our (Middle School Softball) program.
- Encourages and supports the academic achievement of student athletes and sportsmanship.
- Have great knowledge of all the Athletic Policies and Procedures approved by Weldon City Schools Board of Education and is responsible for its implementation by the entire staff of the (Middle School Softball) program.
- Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the coaching staff. Design conferences, clinics and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of our (Middle School Softball) program.
- Assists the Head Coach in scheduling, providing transportation, and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
- Encourage professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy.
- Assist in providing documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
- Safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites. Advise the Head Coach and recommend policy, method or procedural changes.
- Be present at all practices and games.
- Provide assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant.
- Comply with safety protocols established by state and local policy concerning student injuries.
- Effectively communicates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline of an athlete is necessary and contacts parents when a student is suspended, dropped from the roster or otherwise becomes ineligible.
- Promote the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program. Promote the sport outside the school through news media, community recreation programs, or in any other feasible manner.
- Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, Booster Club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school Principal in keeping with Weldon City Schools Board of Education Policy and North Carolina Administrative Code and Statutes.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- As applicable, must meet requirements established by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Weldon City Schools Board of Education, and school administration. Teacher license and employment as a teacher by the Weldon City Schools is strongly preferred. Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport is preferred.
