Sign-on Bonus $4,000 Salary Lab Technician: $25.59 - $37.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Salary Lab Technologist: $32.93 - $49.34 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

SUMMARY

Responsible for the collection, processing and testing of specimens. This job must be performed with strict adherence to the quality control and quality assurance policies of this facility in order to provide the patients and providers with the most accurate and timely test results possible. Adherence to OSHA, COLA, and CLIA requirements is mandatory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Handles high work volumes while maintaining the highest quality testing by careful adherence to department policies/procedure, OSHA, COLA, and CLIA regulations, to assure quality patient care.

Collects and labels specimens following proper procedure. Correctly processes specimens in a timely manner.

Performs tests and follows all procedures for each test performed. Records and reports each test following laboratory policy. May perform waived, moderate or high complexity testing.

Performs and documents all instrument maintenance. Performs and documents all Quality Control on each test system before patients are tested. Follows established procedures when a test system is not within previously defined acceptable levels of performance. Identifies and documents problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and immediately corrects, or notifies lab coordinator or manager.

Participates in the Quality Assurance Plan of the lab by documenting all problems and issues that could affect the quality of patient testing, or patient/provider services. Follows up on all problems and notifies the lab coordinator or manager.

Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills in order to exceed expectations of our patients, external customers, and internal service partners (co-workers).

Maintains/completes all annual educational (i.e. HIPAA, safety, fire, blood and body substances) as required by the Joint Commission, and completes a total of 36 hours of continuing education every 3 years (as required by the ASCP Board of Certification - certification maintenance program).

Performs related work as required.

Considers age related factors in care, treatment, education and evaluation of patients, ranging from neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies and procedures.

Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Must be a graduate from an accredited MLT (CLT) or MT (CLS) program, or equivalent education and training, with certification as a MLT/CLT or MLS/MT. Performs waived, moderate or high complexity testing and phlebotomy. New graduates must pass a national certification exam (ASCP BOR) within 6 months of employment. The complexity of lab tests is dictated by the laboratory’s test menu and the classification of those tests by CMS/CLIA. The laboratory’s CLIA license will indicate the complexity of testing at the site. MLT certified individuals are better able meet the laboratory’s competency requirements and a certified laboratory education prepares the employee to work independently. Understanding of CLIA ’88 and COLA certification. Communication skills to effectively communicate with patients, providers, and staff.

Continuous talking and hearing. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pound waist high (accommodation can be made for this demand).
