THE ROLE
The Design Director, OPI plays a key role within the creative process and the global expression of the brand. This role is responsible for oversight of design direction and asset execution across all customer channels with a strong emphasis on digital expression, social media, ecommerce, e-retail, and overseeing the development and evolution of the OPI customer experience.
This role will partner cross-functionally across the organization to innovate, influence, and champion brand and product love, while balancing expression with clear systems of communication and customer journey, and supporting strategic business goals. Reporting to the Head of Global Creative, the Design Director will also serve as a collaborator and leader within the internal creative agency, championing brand expression and driving executional excellence while collaborating cross functionally with Digital, Product Marketing, Trade Marketing, Education, and other stakeholders. Within the agency, the Design Director plays a key leadership role, collaborating with the Global Head of Creative, Editorial Director, Brand Creative Directors, Packaging Design, and Creative Ops to ensure design intent is carried through consistently across all brand expressions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead digital-first execution for digital and social brand expression as well as across traditional customer touchpoints.
- Innovate and implement expressions and standards for the digital experience of the brand across all consumer touchpoints.
- Develop and drive digital-first thinking, customer-first execution, and brand expression in omnichannel design, typography, graphic systems, UX and UI, along with guidelines, and standards for rollout of campaigns globally
- Develop and optimize the consumer journey across all brand touchpoints with a customer-first, digital-first, social-first approach, while also driving relevance, consistency, and consistency with traditional executions.
- Drive and innovate social media look and feel, constantly keeping on top of trends, influencers, and changing platform-specific considerations to deliver best in class content.
- Own and innovate in-store visual merchandising which balances brand expression with business goals
- Partner with our in-house E-Comm team to continually monitor effectiveness of campaigns and optimize Art Direct on set to guide Creative content capture & guide all pre- & post-production for campaigns, video, social and ecommerce
- Collaborate cross functionally to drive alignment, operational excellence, and process change within the organization
- Collaborate and brainstorm with Digital Marketing, Product Marketing Marketing, Trade Marketing, developers, members of the creative team, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure the work meets all relevant requirements.
- Direct, coordinate, and review and QC execution of work from third party vendors.
- Drive optimization in design workflow, creative process, and overall go-to-market process.
- Clearly communicate and present design concepts which drive alignment and meet business needs
- Drive cross-functional collaboration to achieve innovative, customer-centric design solutions, and cascade concepts into marketing and customer experience through development of toolkits and design directives.
- Lead and coach a team of in-house and external designers, developers, and production artists.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in an Art & Design field.
- 12 years experience in the areas of digital design, print design, creative development, social media, and branding with a strong emphasis on digital design, social media, for beauty, fashion, and luxury marketing.
- A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design principles, software, production processes, UX/UI, development, and deployment with a strong emphasis and work history in digital design.
- A deep ongoing knowledge of social media trends, execution and platform-specific best practices and considerations, particularly in the beauty industry.
- Extensive experience across all phases of design from concept development, design and production.
- Ability to both direct a team and dive in hands-on involvement in projects to ensure executional excellence.
- Expert in eCommerce content formats including enhanced & a content and be able to lead concepting and design for these platforms with input from marketing & ecommerce teams on business priorities.
- Expertise in digital platforms, in-store environments, customer journey, and social media with proven ability to use emerging technology to create disruptive and exciting creative, and decisions driven by operational metrics.
- Extensive knowledge of competitive benchmarks, trends, and competitors across social media, pop culture, beauty, entertainment, fashion, and other relevant categories.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in fast paced and highly demanding environment.
- Existing relationships and experience working with external talent – photographers, influencers, creators, video editors, nail artist, and other production resources.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud (emphasis on Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, XD) and digital design tools such as Sketch, Figma, and others.
- Extensive knowledge of current and emerging trends and best practices in creative, branding, marketing, photography, design, and style.
- Extensive experience managing an internal design team and processes, and partnering cross functionally in executing multiple projects is a must. Must be a strong collaborator and extremely results focussed.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor and develop design talent is required.
- Expert level skills in Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, Sketch, XD, and other digital design applications. Working knowledge of MS Office including Word and PowerPoint
- Category experience in nail and/or color cosmetics
Highly Desirable:
- Previous experience and relationships in social media, influencer content, with an emphaisis on beauty, pop culture, fashion, luxury, and other related industries.
- Experience in a boutique agency setting
- Written and/or verbal proficiency in multiple languages
We disclose the compensation range for positions in compliance with local law. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Wella Company's total rewards package for employees. Pay Range: $119,300- $174,900 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonus plan or variable pay, depending on the role. In addition, Wella Company provides a rich variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance, life and disability insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
