What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Assistant - 7 am to 7:30 pm -or- 7 pm to 7:30 am position at Wellbridge Addiction Treatment and Research?
Nursing Assistants provide hands-on patient care and support in inpatient programs, including detox, rehab, and residential treatment. They help maintain a safe, caring environment while working with the healthcare team to support patient well-being.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Assist patients with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and using the bathroom.
- Help patients move safely, including transfers and using wheelchairs, walkers, or canes.
- Check and record vital signs regularly.
- Assist with measuring patient weight and/or abdominal girth.
- Perform basic tests such as finger-stick blood tests, ECGs, and breathalyzer tests.
- Collect specimens for point-of-care testing as needed.
- Make sure patients eat, drink, and stay hydrated.
- Help with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Provide emotional support and help during crisis situations.
- Encourage patients to take part in their treatment and recovery.
Patient Orientation & Engagement
- Welcome and introduce new patients to the unit.
- Explain rules, phone policies, and sign patients up for phone use.
- Encourage participation in therapy groups and activities.
- Provide basic patient education as needed.
Safety & Supervision
- Maintain a calm, safe, and structured environment.
- Conduct patient safety checks at assigned intervals and report any changes.
- Assist with room searches and skin assessments.
- Collect and document urine samples when needed.
- Help guide patients for scheduled medications, provider visits, and lab tests.
- Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies as needed.
- Complete incident reports when necessary.
Teamwork & Support
- Set an example of patient-centered care and respect.
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team.
- Train and support new employees.
- Attend team meetings and assist in improving patient care.
- Monitors medical supply inventory and replenishes stock.
Experience and Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Experience in healthcare, nursing, or behavioral health.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or obtain within 60 days).
Basic knowledge of substance use and mental health
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in NYS.
Current BLS certification.
Experience using electronic health records (EHR).
Familiarity with OASAS, ASAM, and Joint Commission standards.
Experience in detox, rehab, or withdrawal management settings.

Pay: $23.00 - $26.45 per hour
