Position Summary: The Program Director’s primary responsibility is to oversee all Wellfit Girls programs. This person will help build educational, social-emotional and relational support systems around students’ needs throughout their Wellfit experience. The Program Director will help plan, implement and lead educational expeditions for each Wellfit Girls program. The Program Director will also be responsible for helping to recruit and train adult/peer mentors to positively impact the lives of the students. This position has significant administrative, program management and service delivery responsibilities, including policy development and compliance oversite. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for managing program development initiatives and other quality assurance/improvement activities, as well as maintain good relations with community stakeholders. The Program Director will be responsible for developing a program culture that is person centered, outcome oriented and dedicated to continuous quality improvement. 

 

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Develop and maintain caring relationships with participating students and their families  
  • Oversee cohorts of youth and plan, design and implement program curricula and activities.  
  • Design, organize and lead two educational expeditions a year (from 3 to 10 days in length), as well as other smaller expeditions (1-3 days in length) 
  • Facilitate students in teambuilding activities and consensus decision making during pre-trip planning meetings 
  • Manage program accounting, including expedition budgets and managing all program fees.  
  • Maintain participant paperwork, applications, and program waivers 
  • Recruit program participants by developing relationships with teachers, school counselors, school administrators and other community stakeholders and maintain these relationships on behalf of program participants 
  • Be an active part of the applicant selection process and scholarship committee 
  • Schedule and conduct one-on-one meetings with applicants and parents 
  • Oversee and manage program coordinators, program facilitators, and all program volunteers to ensure all programs are operating smoothly 
  • Create and implement all protocols, policies and systems for the use of all Wellfit Girls’ equipment and company vehicles.  
  • Maintain and manage specific program property including, expedition equipment and gear, as well as company owned or rented vehicles 
  • Oversee program evaluation and assessment of the youth in the program  
  • Work closely with Executive Team to ensure all Wellfit Girls students’ academic and non-academic needs are met 
  • Prepare detailed reports for Executive Team 
  • Build future protocols, policies and systems for training, supervising and evaluating all future program staff with the help of the Executive Team. 
  • Build a volunteer program with the help of the Executive Team that can effectively recruit, select, train, supervise and retain future volunteers  
  • Create, design and implement all organizational program priorities, protocols and policies with the help of the Executive Team. 
  • Co-lead the programs committee with the committee chair 

 


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching, leading and/or mentoring groups in an outdoor setting preferred 
  • Willingness to make a 3-year commitment to live in SWFL 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Clean driving record 
  • Must be willing to drive a 15-passenger van 
  • Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification or ability to acquire it within 6 months of hire 
  • Team-oriented and collaborative-minded 
  • Must have excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel  
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills  
  • Works collaboratively and/or independently as the task requires  
  • Strong critical/creative/strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills  
  • Organized with strong attention to detail  
  • Meets deadlines, works well under pressure 
  • Skilled facilitator  
  • Experience with risk-management best-practices 
  • Ability to physically complete a full expedition trek (anywhere from 3-10 days at high levels of elevation) 
  • Willingness to travel 
  • Willingness to have a flexible schedule 
  • Bilingual Spanish and/or Haitian-Creole speaker a plus 

 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

Responsible for managing programs leadership teams, youth cohorts, parents and volunteers. 

 

Work Environment/Dynamics: Our programs with youth take place in the local schools, on expeditions and at various parks throughout Southwest Florida. The work schedule is based on a 40-hour workweek, but extended hours are often necessary. Weekend and evening hours are frequently required. Expeditions can require long periods of travel. Program administration requires periods of time sitting behind a computer in a professional office environment.  Programs are held regardless of weather, which means sometimes working in hot, wet, "buggy" or even cold conditions. As a small, community-based organization, all staff must value and respect the team environment with the ability to look beyond the confines of their job description to ensure success for the young people that the organization supports. 

 

Evaluations 

  • Executive Director will conduct an annual evaluation with the Program Director 

 

Time Off 

  • Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.  
  • Some programs fall during holidays. These hours can be displaced during other typical worktime during your week. 
  • In scheduling your vacations, please do not miss leadership group sessions.  
  • Staff typically takes vacation during the month of August after the program season is over 
  • As long as there is another team member to support your absence, you are expected not to miss more than two group sessions unless a special circumstance arises. 

 

Events 

  • Attend and run in the Wellfit Girls Hop to the Top 5K and attend other events as necessary 
  • Support with misc. participant fundraising events 

 

Benefit Summary: 

The pay for this position varies based on experience. Wellfit Girls offers a competitive benefits package, including health and retirement plans. 

Salary : $40,000 - $50,000
