Position Summary
The extrusion operator is responsible for shift wise operation of the extrusion machine reporting to shift leader to organize the daily activities on the extrusion machine and is responsible for production results and optimum operation of the extrusion process. The operator checks the quality of the product and adjusts the settings as needed. Operators will report to shift supervisor.
Major Function and Scope
- Assist on starting up and shutting down of the line.
- Adjust setting if needed in communication with shift leader and within process specification.
- Monitors quality.
- Performs time sensitive quality checks.
- Ensure the extrusion line has correct raw materials.
- Accounts in system the produced products.
- Adjust, calibrate, and test equipment at the beginning of every shift to ensure proper pressure, speed, temperature, and general operation.
- Examine visually, weigh and measure components created from equipment at the end of the week to ensure machines are producing according to company and industry regulations and standards, adjusting as needed.
- Work with team members, shift supervisors and all necessary personnel to take care of complications as they arise.
- Communicate with fellow team members to learn of any equipment problems or malfunctions and take care of them as they come up.
- Use regulated cleaning solutions, grease guns, oil cans, air hoses and cleaning cloths to properly maintain and clean equipment on a bimonthly basis.
- Make repairs to equipment when necessary, and replace all defective, broken or worn-out components.
- Choose and install cutters, molds, and all other necessary equipment parts so machines are always operating at peak efficiency.
- Responsible for order and cleanliness.
- Follow safety guidelines.
Requirements
Knowledge, Experience, and Competencies
- Minimum 2 years’ experience required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Stand walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. handle or feel objects tools, or controls handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- The employee will regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Work near moving mechanical parts.
- Must be able to wear hearing protection all the time.
- GED or High Scholl Diploma required

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is occasionally exposed to wet, warm, humid and cold temperatures.
