POSITION TITLE: CLINICIAN
PROGRAM: Adult Outpatient Department
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinicians are responsible for the direct and indirect services to behavioral health clients eligible for, seeking, or obtaining services from the agency. They are licensed by the State of Connecticut and credentialed by the agency to assess, diagnose, and treat clients upon approval of the Lead Clinician and/or Director of Outpatient Services. Clinicians are usually assigned a case load that consists of 60% direct service time and 40% indirect service time. Direct service includes assessment interviews, group therapy facilitation, crisis intervention, treatment planning and discharge planning. Indirect services may include supervision, rounds, case conferences, insurance authorizations and documentation associated with client care.
SUPERVISION: Supervised by: Director of Adult Outpatient and/or designee.
EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide comprehensive evaluation and crisis intervention to clients seeking services from Wellmore. Complete all required documentation within the contractual, funding and licensing timelines.
- Work with clinical and management team to ensure all clients that present to Open Access/Walk in care are screened and linked to appropriate level of care and/or services.
- Collaborate with clients in the development of treatment plans, treatment plan reviews, and discharge/continuing care plans within the contractual, funding and licensing timelines.
- Facilitate Intensive Outpatient (ASAM Level 2.1), Outpatient (ASAM Level 1) group therapy and psycho-educational sessions, utilizing evidence-based and research driven curriculum and interventions on topics related to Substance Use and Co-Occurring Conditions.
- Provide short term, solution focused individual therapy when indicated by the disposition team.
- Provide written documentation on client’s status to clients, referral sources, Department of Corrections, Court Support Services, Department of Children & Families, Employers, etc.
- Supervise urine samples for testing, perform breathalyzer testing and collect oral swab tests.
- Provides coverage for co-workers during vacation and personal leave time to ensure client needs are met. May provide clinical coverage for clinical residential programing.
- Organize and present time sensitive clinical information to managed care companies for the purposes of treatment authorizations and continued stay reviews.
- Develop effective networking relationships with outside contractors, referral sources and community agencies. Engage in ongoing marketing of programs and represent the agency at community events and meetings as assigned by Management.
- Present clinical information for each client on caseload on a regular basis to the treatment team during Multidisciplinary rounds. Translate treatment team recommendations to client and assist with following through with referrals and recommendations as agreed upon by client.
- Participate in supervision, team meetings, rounds, agency committees and work groups as assigned by management. May be required to participate in trainings (both on site and off site) as determined by the Director of Adult Outpatient and/or Vice President of Adult Services.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Master’s Degree in, social work, marriage and family therapy or related human services field with at least a one-year clinical internship working with adult population is required. Experience in group therapy and with working with the adult population is preferred. Training preferred on the following topics: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions (ASAM), Co-occurring disorders, including prevalence, signs/symptoms, assessment, treatment and the impact of one’s own attitudes/beliefs on the delivery of services and the use of naloxone in response to an opioid overdose.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) or Associate License required for Master of Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFTA) and/or master’s in counseling (LPCA). Advanced license required within two years. LADC is not required but welcomed in addition to primary licensure.
CONTINUED COMPETENCY:
Attendance at required in-service training and continuing education as recommended by Director and/or Vice President. Must consistently always deliver exceptional customer service. Must consistently attend, be prepared for, and meaningfully participate in individual supervision, Rounds, and team meetings. Must maintain a satisfactory performance evaluation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Must be fluent in English. Bilingual Spanish/English is preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to accurately count and reconcile using units of American currency.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to anticipate and articulate concerns regarding potential areas of inaccuracy.
