The mission of the fellowship program is to provide fellows with comprehensive cognitive and clinical education, enabling them to become competent, proficient, and professional urgent care providers.
The goals and objectives of the urgent care fellowship program are to train fellows in the WellNow core competencies and position them for success in a fast-paced urgent care environment.
Program Overview
The Urgent Care Fellowship program is a minimum 9-month continuing specialty rotation that provides enhanced clinical experience in urgent care medicine.
Fellows will have one-on-one preceptorship with experienced Clinical Faculty, learn through hands-on patient care, and receive ongoing lectures guided by our didactic curriculum.
Responsibilities
Fellows will work collaboratively with Urgent Care teams under the mentorship of experienced NPs/PAs to provide care for patients at our sites.
This includes examining, diagnosing, and treating patients of all ages with acute illnesses and injuries or exacerbations of chronic disease.
Fellows will also be responsible for ordering evidence-based testing, prescribing medications, and referring patients to outside specialists as needed.
In addition, they will perform occupational medicine services, including DOT exams and treatment of Worker's Compensation injuries, as well as maintain accurate and comprehensive patient charts.
Fellows will document patient information in Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and demonstrate superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness, customer relation skills, computer competence, and an active desire to learn.
Requirements
Fellows must have:
- Successful completion of an accredited approved PA or FNP program
- Active board certification with NCCPA (for Physician Assistants) or AANP/ANCC (for Family Nurse Practitioners)
- Licensure as a Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner in the state where applying
- Demonstrated clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness, customer relation skills, computer competence, and an active desire to learn
