The primary responsibilities of a Packaging Engineer I are to provide support to the internal customer base of Wells Enterprises in: 1) New Product Development (NPD) 2) Plant troubleshooting on packaging materials 3) Specification Management 4) Qualification of materials and vendors.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your immediate supervisor, as dictated by business necessity.

The primary responsibilities of a Packaging Engineer I are to provide support to the internal customer base of Wells Enterprises in: 1) New Product Development (NPD) 2) Plant troubleshooting on packaging materials 3) Specification Management 4) Qualification of materials and vendors.
- Conducts oneself in a professional manner, respectful of the Company culture and the employees of Wells. Is personable, is someone co-workers enjoy working with and demonstrates solid communication skills.
- Makes good, fact-based decisions through a mixture of analysis and judgment. Delivers reliably on the tasks given on agreed timelines. Learns quickly when facing new challenges and is open to change. Has demonstrated the problem-solving skills essential to continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
- Capable of providing technical knowledge on the range of packaging mediums utilized at Wells. Understands and has the capability to perform physical and functional attribute testing on packaging material; and utilizes the software available for packaging development and analysis.
- Understands the steps in NPD and the role and responsibility of the Packaging Engineer in the process. Is capable of providing the necessary packaging expertise to deliver to Marketing the design and specification required.
- Is capable of developing and updating (as required) specifications for packaging into the business operating software (Oracle). Follows the Packaging Development process as outlined.
- Has established relationships with key vendors and utilizes the contacts and material expertise of industry professionals as necessary in the daily work.
- Recommends packaging improvements that may lead to operational efficiency improvements, lower waste and reduce total costs.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your immediate supervisor, as dictated by business necessity.
- College degree, preferably in Packaging Engineering or related degree.
- Entry Level, 0-2 years of experience specifically in Packaging Engineering preferred; should have sufficient baseline knowledge of the substrates used at Wells; should have demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge - Packaging substrates to include: paper, paperboard, plastic (molding), flexible film and corrugated; basic computer skills, packaging testing.
- Skills - Problem solving, continuous improvement training preferred; internship or prior experience in Packaging Engineering.
- Abilities - Strong Communication skills, written and verbal; capable of working efficiently and effectively either in a Team or Individual environment.
- Reports to Packaging Engineering Manager.
