Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Credit Risk & Approval Officer within the Investment Portfolio Risk Oversight (IPRO) team. This position is part of Wells Fargo's second line of defense and is within Finance Risk Management, reporting to the Group Senior Credit Officer. The position covers credit risk oversight of municipal and sovereign bonds in the Investment Portfolio (IP). Responsibilities include reviewing creditworthiness, maintaining high credit standards, managing the credit approval process, monitoring individual exposures, and providing ongoing portfolio level updates. These responsibilities ensure adherence to various internal policies and procedures.
The team is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and highly self-motivated individual with experience in credit risk, various credit products, strong analytical skills, and solid problem-solving capabilities. An individual possessing strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills will excel in this role as they will interact with a vast number of peers, colleagues, executives, senior leadership, and stake holders spanning across Credit Risk, Business Units, Finance, Treasury, Operations and Audit groups.

In This Role, You Will
- Act as key participant in monitoring and reviewing credit exposures in IP.
- Provide in-depth evaluation of municipal and sovereign lending including underwriting, credit product limits, transaction structures, and risk ratings.
- Coordinate the credit approval process and provide concise documented rationales for credit recommendations to senior leaders, as needed.
- Review and interpret credit policies and procedures and incorporate requirements into credit oversight responsibilities.
- Ensure maintenance of credit standards and adherence to policy and procedure requirements.
- Lead and participate in complex initiatives including those that are cross-functional and will have broad impact.
- Receive direction from senior credit officers and exercise independent judgment accordingly.
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.
- 7 years of Credit Risk & Approval experience or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 7 years of credit experience in either front line or independent risk management (IRM). Experience with analyzing municipal and sovereign debt preferred.
- Possess strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy, as well as the ability to understand financial implications, synthesize information to identify key risks, identify solutions, and develop clear options and recommendations.
- Knowledge of credit products including fixed income securities, derivatives, loans, and other funding products.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; experience presenting to senior management.
- Experience in an environment that requires attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, collaboration, and proactive management skills.
- Familiarity with applicable credit and enterprise policies and procedures, as well as related regulatory guidance are preferred.
