This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of workers engaged in maintaining and repairing equipment and the structures of building.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Direct and assist workers engaged in maintenance and repair of equipment, preventive maintenance and electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other structural repairs/modifications to the building.
- Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Inspect completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.
- Plan and prioritize work in advance to achieve assigned objectives on schedule, estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Communicate customer expectations and job performance standards to employees in order that work assignments are completed according to priorities.
- Work with the BBS team, inspect facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Provide support for Kaizen and 5-S events.
- Attract, develop, and retain talent; establish and maintain an effective on-the-job training program for persons new to positions within the department.
- Operate within authorized manpower. Understand the effect of labor cost and take action to minimize lost time or unproductive activity.
- Understand and advocate the goals, objectives, and decisions of management.
- Have a thorough understanding of company policies, procedures, and safety rules and administer consistently.
- Monitor, define, and approve hours worked in time and attendance program.
- Ensure department’s compliance to IATF16949 and ISO 14001 requirements regarding job descriptions, work instructions, inspection practices, Quality and Procedure Manuals, internal audits, and the timely handling of corrective actions.
- Generate ideas for eliminating waste and improving service within the scope of the department as well as plant wide.
- Confer with other supervisors and managers to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Directly supervise employees in the department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include Participating in the hiring process and training employees: planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Maintain a culture of open and robust communication to facilitate and enhance the achievement of business goals and objectives.
- Create a workplace that is attractive to a diverse, multigenerational workforce.
- Coach, mentor and recognize employees to build engagement.
- Align departmental goals and objectives to support business growth and financial objectives.
- Prepare appropriation requests for new or replacement equipment.
- Communicate with outside contractors to ensure their work is completed according to written agreements and company expectations.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and organized work area.
- Provide a work environment where employees are actively involved in proactive measures towards safety.
- Investigate all reported injuries in the department, complete required documentation and evaluate suggestions for improvement.
- Other job activities as assigned.
- High School diploma required; Advanced degree preferred; 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position; 5 years’ experience in a maintenance role preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees and to communicate to other facilities by phone and electronic communication forms.
- Math skills used to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
- Critical thinking skills to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Basic computer skills including but not limited to a working knowledge of Microsoft office packages.
