What are the responsibilities and job description for the CARPENTER position at Wells?
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Meets regularly with the Production Manager to discuss anticipated production sequences and potential form construction problems, and to provide input on work processes and workflow improvement.
- Build wood forms for slabs on grade, suspended slabs, walls, columns, vertical slip-formed walls, and precast beams.
- Construct, erect, install, and repair wood, plywood, wallboard structures, etc.
- Read and follow blueprints, sketches, or building plans.
- Operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, pneumatic nail gun, skill saw, compound miter saw, radial arm saw, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proven experience as a carpenter
- Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
- Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
- Ability to read documents and drawings
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Good knowledge of English
- Good understanding of basic math
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
At least (1) year of form carpentry experience
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, twist, and walk, must be able to use various hand tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance on elevated surfaces; and stoop, kneel, squat, crouch or crawl. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Constant and continual medium to heavy manual, physical labor is required for this position.
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as work boots, hard hats, work gloves, safety glasses, and hearing protection. This is an indoor/outdoor work environment: Exposure to sun, heat, humidity, cold, wind, light rain, sand, and dust.
