JOB DESCRIPTION: SSL Teacher, SUMMER DAY CAMP, Seasonal, Part-Time
Wellspring Summer Day Camp is seeking dynamic and mission-driven SSL Teachers to deliver high-impact math and literacy curriculum to youth in our innovation summer program. This initiative is designed to accelerate learning, build confidence, and inspire a lifelong love of education.
As a SSL Teacher, you will create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that integrate academic rigor with fun, fostering both skill development and a sense of belonging. This is a unique opportunity to make a measurable impact on students’ learning outcomes in a supportive, enrichment-based environment.
The highly successful Indiana Summer Learning Labs program is in collaboration with Indianapolis-based education nonprofit, The Mind Trust, with partner Lavinia Group. The program includes 5 weeks of reading and math lessons for K-8 students, teacher planning resources, pre and post assessments and in-person coaching for facilitators.
We are seeking educators who are willing to commit to a 6-week program running from June 2nd-July 11th. Training will take place during the week of June 2nd. The training will consist of:
· Three days of virtual training on curriculum and assessment requirements conducted by Lavinia, the week of June 2nd.
· Monday, May 19th, 5:00-8:00, Wellspring Summer Day Camp Procedures and Safety Training
Program Schedule:
· June 2nd-July 11th, 2025
· Hours: Teachers will work 8:00am-12:00pm each day, Monday-Friday for a combination of prep and classroom time.
· Virtual Professional Development: an additional two hours of virtual PD are required each week at either 12:00pm or 3:00pm (specific days to be determined).
· We will be closed for the following holiday observances:
o June 19th, 2025
o July 4th, 2025
Compensation:
· Weekly Payment: $1000 for each of the six weeks.
· Completion Bonus: a $500 lump sum payment will be awarded after successfully completing the summer programming
· Total Compensation: $6500
Responsibilities:
· Deliver high-quality instruction in math and literacy, using research-based strategies aligned with grade-level standards.
· Implement interactive lessons that engage students through hands-on activities, collaborative learning, and real-world applications.
· Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, ensuring all students receive the support they need to succeed.
· Monitor and assess student progress, providing targeted feedback and individualized support.
· Create a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment that fosters academic confidence and participation.
· Serve as a mentor and role model, inspiring students to embrace learning with enthusiasm and perseverance.
· Maintain accurate record of student attendance, engagement, and achievement.
· Conduct pre- and post-assessments for each student to help gauge student progress.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
· Current teaching certification in elementary or eligibility for certification in Indiana.
· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Math, English, or a related field required.
· Experience teaching math and/or literacy in a classroom or structured educational setting.
· Strong ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies for diverse learners.
· Excellent classroom management, communication, and student engagement skills.
· Passion for equity-driven education and commitment to closing opportunity gaps for youth.
Skills and Abilities:
· Must be self-motivated, competitive, creative, personable, and detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal skills. Strong emphasis on solution-based thinking, positivity, and ability to execute. Team player who is ethical, transparent in communication, and treats colleagues, participants, and their families with the highest level of respect. Must be able to pass all required background checks and drug screens at any time.
