Job Summary
A CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to critically ill patients recovering from cardiovascular surgeries, including open-heart surgery, coronary artery bypass grafts (CABG), valve replacements, and other cardiac-related procedures. This role plays a critical part in monitoring and managing patients' cardiovascular status, providing advanced nursing care, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes for patients with complex cardiac conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients recovering from cardiac surgical procedures, including post-operative care.
- Monitor and manage patients' hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythms, and vital signs using advanced monitoring equipment.
- Administer medications, including vasoactive medications, inotropes, and sedatives, to maintain hemodynamic stability.
- Provide post-surgical care, including wound care, chest tube management, and monitoring for complications such as arrhythmias, heart failure, or infections.
- Collaborate with cardiac surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and their families on post-operative care, medications, and discharge planning.
- Recognize and respond to life-threatening situations, initiating interventions such as resuscitation or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).
- Manage mechanical cardiac support devices, such as intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP), ventricular assist devices (VADs), and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT).
