Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Registered Nurse (WOC Nurse)
A Wound, Ostomy, and Continence (WOC) Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to patients with complex wounds, ostomies, and continence-related issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, diagnose, and manage patients with chronic or acute wounds, including pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, surgical wounds, and traumatic injuries.
- Develop and implement individualized wound care treatment plans, including the selection of appropriate wound dressings, therapies, and interventions.
- Provide ostomy care, including pre-operative and post-operative education, stoma care, and management of complications such as leakage or skin irritation.
- Educate patients and their families on wound care, ostomy management, and strategies for promoting skin health and preventing complications.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers, dietitians, and therapists to develop comprehensive care plans for patients with wound, ostomy, and continence needs.
- Monitor and assess patients' skin integrity, identifying and managing pressure ulcers, skin breakdown, and other wound-related conditions.
- Provide counseling and emotional support to patients and families, addressing concerns related to wound care, ostomy care, and quality of life.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes.
- Advocate for patients in accessing wound care supplies, medications, and appropriate wound or ostomy products.
- Participate in wound and ostomy care education and training programs, as well as staff education sessions to promote best practices.
- Assist with data collection, quality improvement initiatives, and the development of evidence-based care practices related to wound, ostomy, and continence care.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Certification: Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN) certification preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Experience: Previous experience in wound, ostomy, and continence care, or related clinical nursing experience.
