IV Therapy Registered Nurse (IV Therapy RN)
An IV Therapy Registered Nurse specializes in the administration of intravenous therapies, ensuring safe and effective infusion therapies for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patients for the need for IV therapy, including selecting appropriate sites, catheter insertion, and maintaining IV access.
- Administer and monitor IV medications, fluids, electrolytes, blood products, and parenteral nutrition (PN) therapies.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper IV therapy protocols are followed.
- Monitor and assess patients for adverse reactions, complications, or infections related to IV access or therapy.
- Educate patients and families on the purpose, care, and maintenance of IV devices and home infusion therapies.
- Maintain and document accurate records of IV therapies, patient responses, and outcomes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve IV-related complications such as infiltration, phlebitis, or infections.
- Ensure compliance with infection control practices, including hand hygiene and proper sterile techniques.
- Provide support and training to other nursing staff on IV therapy best practices and safety protocols.
- Ensure proper maintenance of IV pumps, supplies, and equipment.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal infusion therapies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Intravenous Therapy Certification (IV-C) or Certification in Infusion Nursing (CRNI) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in IV therapy.
