Job Title: Critical Care Unit Registered Nurse
Job Summary
A Critical Care Unit Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in acute, life-threatening situations. The nurse delivers high-level care to patients with complex medical needs, requiring continuous monitoring, advanced interventions, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, and provide nursing care to critically ill patients in the Critical Care Unit, including those with conditions such as heart attack, cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, sepsis, and post-surgical complications.
- Monitor patients' hemodynamic status, vital signs, and response to treatments, ensuring early identification and intervention of life-threatening conditions.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and specialized treatments such as vasoactive medications, pain management, and sedation.
- Collaborate with intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapists, and other multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Provide patient and family education on critical care procedures, condition management, and discharge planning.
- Recognize and respond to arrhythmias, respiratory distress, and other life-threatening complications, implementing interventions according to established protocols.
- Assist with procedures such as intubation, central line placement, arterial line monitoring, and other advanced interventions as needed.
- Monitor and maintain mechanical ventilators, cardiac monitoring equipment, and other life support devices.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately and in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, contributing to care planning, goal setting, and discharge planning for critically ill patients.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
- Licensure:
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Certification:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred.
