Ultrasound Technologist Job Description
An Ultrasound Technologist, also known as a Sonographer, performs diagnostic imaging procedures using ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality images of internal organs, soft tissues, and blood flow. These images assist physicians in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, vascular, and small parts imaging, as ordered by the physician.
- Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and positioning them correctly for optimal imaging.
- Operate ultrasound equipment to capture diagnostic-quality images, adjusting settings as necessary based on the patient's condition and the area of study.
- Analyze images for quality and accuracy, documenting findings and preparing preliminary technical reports for physician review.
- Recognize and identify normal and abnormal findings, ensuring proper documentation of relevant anatomy and pathology.
- Maintain and sanitize ultrasound equipment and transducers following infection control protocols.
- Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive diagnostic information.
- Ensure patient safety by adhering to established procedures, including monitoring for adverse reactions and maintaining a safe environment.
- Maintain accurate patient records and comply with all legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
- Stay updated on advancements in ultrasound technology and imaging techniques through continuing education.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field.
- Certification: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent.
- Specialties in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics/Gynecology (OB/GYN), or Vascular Technology (RVT) are highly preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience as an Ultrasound Technologist is preferred; new graduates from accredited programs may be considered.
Wellspring Nurse Source is seeking a travel Ultrasound Technologist for a 13-week contract in Ketchum, Idaho. The successful candidate will work 36 hours per week, 12 hours per shift, and will have access to tax-free stipend amounts to be determined.
