Job Description
This part-time, professional position will coordinate the children, youth, and family programming and ministries at Wellspring UMC with an emphasis on fostering and growing Wellspring’s programs in these areas, to include, education programming, outreach and mission, and discipleship. This position reports to the Pastor.
Chief Objectives of the Role
- Lead youth, children, and their families, in developing and enhancing their relationship with God through discipleship, mission, and outreach
- Work in conjunction with Director of Discipleship and Worship and Pastor to set goals and vision for ministry
- Serve as a spiritual leader and role model for children, youth, and their families
Job Duties and Expectations
Education Programs:
- Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced children, youth, and family ministry in the areas of discipleship, mission, and outreach and strategically work to ensure that this ministry is integrated into the total life and ministry of the church
- Recruit, train, support, retain and assist volunteers in all church educational programming
- Fill in as needed when volunteer is unavailable
- Research resources for developing the educational programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities
- Coordinate (scheduling, announcement, order materials, registration, fee collection, etc) educational studies for children, youth, and families
- Mentor children and youth in developing their leadership skills and work with Worship Arts ministry to create opportunities for families, children, and youth to participate in praise, worship, and missions.
Youth:
- Conduct weekly programming for middle school and high school youth
- Recruit, train, support, retain and assist volunteers in youth programming
- Keep records of youth participation, reach out to new and/or absent youth
- Connect with youth in the community
- Coordinate congregation involvement in youth programs
- Encourage participation in the church’s mission projects (retreats, mission projects, outings)
- Under pastoral guidance, develop, schedule, and attend confirmation annually
Other:
- Share with the pastor joys, concerns, challenges, hospitalizations, and crisis situations being faced by children, youth and/or their families
- Create open communication with families, youth, church staff, leadership and congregation as a whole
- Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain all church social media outlets as it relates to children, youth, and families
- Communicate with congregation and community in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, and social media)
- Develop and manage the Children, Youth, and Family Ministries budget; maintain financial records according to the Wellspring Financial Policy Manual
Meetings:
- Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings
- Attend committee meetings as needed
- Meet with Pastor and/or Director of Discipleship and Worship as requested
Preferred Competencies and Qualifications
College Degree or United Methodist Church certification
Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working with in family, children and/or youth
Strong organizational skills to include planning, developing, coordinating, managing and implementing assigned ministries within United Methodist Church
Must embrace Christian and United Methodist doctrine and theology
Excellent written and verbal communication, conflict management, and computer skills
Proven ability to work with diverse individuals, including youth, parents and volunteers
Demonstrated ability to recruit, train and motivate volunteers
Possess keen perception and ability to adapt to heavy workload and changing circumstances of a church environment
Clean background check and driving record screening
Anticipated Start Date: January 2025 or earlier. Position open until filled.

Pay: $18.00 per hour
