Facility: Kennestone Hospital
The Communications Logistics Specialist is a member of the Central Logistics Center.
Coordination, prioritization and efficient use of all beds within the hospital for surgical cases, cardiac cath lab cases, vascular institute cases, special procedures, direct admissions from MD office or home, ER admissions, unit to unit transfers, as well as working with the transfer center on transfers in from other facilities.
Evaluation of each admission to ensure the right patient is assigned to the right floor at the right facility.
Contacting physicians for clarification when needed.
The applicant must have excellent computer, telephone, and customer services skills.
The applicant must be able to keep accurate data to reflect patient location, bed usage, bed availability and pt flow timing.
All Central Logistics Center communications and functions will follow EMTALA guidelines and ensure that the transfer process ensures a safe and seamless acceptance of patients into the Wellstar Health System
Responsibilities:
- Communication of information related to patients requiring placement
- Evaluation of all procedure and surgical schedules for pts requiring bed assignments post procedure and communication of this information to the appropriate unit
- Evaluation of all ER admission requests for appropriate information for determination of placement
- Processing of information from physicians office for accuracy regarding direct admits for proper placement and communication of this information to appropriate unit while collaborating with the Clinical Safety Supervisor
- Communication with physicians when needed to ensure proper placement
- Communication with care coordination and/or physician advisor when review is needed on incoming direct admissions or transfers from other facilities
- Maintenance of accurate and centralized information for all patients requiring placement in the hospital
- Coordination of all procedural and surgical schedules for priority and accuracy of placement
- Coordination of all admissions into the hospital i.e. direct admission, ER and hospital to hospital transfers.
- Coordination of unit to unit moves to facilitate opening appropriate beds as needed
- Communication and Placement of Patients in Emergent Situations
- Communication of patient requiring critical care placement to Unit Bed Coordinator of Critical Care.
- Accuracy in obtaining information to call in the On-Call Teams for either Cath Lab, CVOR, VI or ECMO, calling in team, obtaining bed and notification of appropriate personnel
- Communication of house census to hospital leadership in times of surge
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Qualifications:
Required Minimum Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient work experience
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology Preferred
Preferred Minimum Education:
- Graduate from an accredited LPN or Paramedic program Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support-Preferred or ACLS - Instructor-Preferred or ACLS - Provisional-Preferred
- Lic Practical Nurse or Paramedic
