JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the operation of WellWise Services Area Agency on Aging and acts as a liaison with relevant federal and state Agencies. The CEO executes and administers the Agency’s programs in accordance with federal, state and local legal requirements.
The CEO, utilizing staff as appropriate, shall assist the Board in establishment of necessary policies, procedures and program directions for the effective delivery of services to the older adults of the region, adults with disabilities and their caregivers, the examination and evaluation of service needs of Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee counties.
The CEO, in collaboration with the board, will provide visionary leadership and guidance in ensuring the optimal strategic positioning of WellWise Services. The CEO will work with internal and external stakeholders to guide WellWise Services’ continued development and evolution, to include an emphasis on service excellence, community presence and engagement, programmatic development, advocacy, and communication.
Reporting to WellWise Services Board of Directors, the CEO will bring diverse constituencies together to build upon the success of WellWise Services and articulate and execute a strategic vision which continually assesses and takes advantage of changing market conditions and contemporary business models.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible to conduct the operations of WellWise Services in accordance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. The policies and procedures implemented by WellWise Services from time to time shall be enforced by the CEO to ensure administrative control, accountability, and proper functioning of the service delivery system to older adults, individuals with disabilities and their caregivers in the three Michigan counties (Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee).
• Promote the mission of the agency internally and externally.
• Report to the Board of Directors on the performance, financial status, administrative and personnel operations of WellWise Services. Ensure that the board is involved in key decisions, maintaining transparency and accountability.
• Establish relationships and acts as the authorized liaison of the board with relevant government agencies and service providers.
• Negotiate and manage WellWise Services grants and contracts.
• Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of programs to ensure they meet the mission and vision of WellWise Services .
• Arrange for the WellWise Services Board of Directors and Advisory Council meetings. Facilitate the operation of the Agency in accordance with the Michigan Open Meetings Act. CEO will prepare the necessary correspondence for the Agency and will serve as secretary, an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board, Advisory Council and committees.
• Oversee and facilitate the property needs and management.
• Facilitate strategic planning, implementation, and communication around the needs of the community and state.
• Oversee fundraising efforts and funding diversification.
• Be visible in the community and serve as WellWise Services spokesperson.
• Hire, train and manage senior staff. Develop and manage a succession plan for senior staff. Provide a positive workplace culture for all staff.
• Participate in the negotiation and execution of collective bargaining agreements.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business, human services field, gerontology, public administration or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with older adults, adults with disabilities and their caregivers.
• Five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Experience working with Boards.
• Non-profit or Government Agency leadership experience preferred.
• Knowledge and understanding of trends and practices in community-based care and public health.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Ability to prepare and analyze budget and policy material.
• Excellent organizational management skills with the ability to plan, manage, delegate and develop programs.
• Ability to travel throughout the region (Hillsdale, Jackson and Lenawee Counties) as well as the state of Michigan and nationally to attend meetings/trainings.
• Knowledge, understanding, experience, and practical application of the overall functions and operations of an Area Agency on Aging.
• Ability to listen attentively to the concerns of others at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to work with diverse groups, partners and individuals including older adults, adults with disabilities and their caregivers, elected officials, and other human service agencies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and strong computer fundamentals.
• Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports, information, and public presentations.
• Strong negotiation skills.
Full Time. Exempt position. Salary $125,000 - $160,000. Benefits include paid time off and holidays, health insurance and employer contribution to a 403(b) retirement account.
