What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Engineer position at Welser Profile North America?
Essential Responsibilities
- Participation in the test planning for welded profiles/products, taking into account specified specifications.
- Participation in the preparation and updating of the weld seam inspection test report to include Eddy current set up, verification and on going testing which may include cut and etch, mag particle or other methods as specified.
- Execution of ESA tests and issuance of production approvals with the characteristics of weld seam quality and weld seam surface as well as post-galvanizing of the weld seam
- Execution of running tests, preparation of demand-oriented work samples and information to QP personnel/production personnel about the current quality situation of the weld seam
- Perform ET inspection according to inspection plan
- Support of the QP personnel/production personnel in carrying out the specified weld seam inspection and the proper entry of the test result
- Manage quality assurance of new product introduction
- Assist in new program builds and process development
- Develop test methods/procedures to support product validation efforts
- Perform performance validation tests to meet customer specifications and generate test reports of performance validation tests
- Work with the team to develop documents and procedures associated with the project which could include designing and developing new tooling or equipment.
- Manage customer complaint system in conformance with customer expectations
- Manage gauge system including but not limited to design, inspection, calibrate, repair, W.I. R&R, etc., and in conformance with customer expectations
- Support the PPAP system with Technical expertise and PPAP annual system support, and in conformance with customer expectations
- Set detailed guidelines on what needs to be checked and what the quality standards are
- Recommend updates to Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, fixes, and improvements
- Determine quality metrics for all manufacturing procedures
- Monitor the entire production cycle and perform regular tests to identify potential malfunctions as early as possible
- Identify the root of technical issues and recommend fixes
- Prepare reports on malfunctions and corrective actions (e.g. number of defective raw materials per order)
- Set and track quality assurance goals
- Coordinate with external quality assurance auditors and technicians to ensure legal compliance
- Work with internal teams to increase customer satisfaction by improving the quality of the products
- Responsible for total Quality of products and services and authorized to stop work when a nonconformance is noted.
- Perform assigned quality system functions as specified in QMS procedures.
- Perform other responsibilities as determined by the supervisor.
- Observe established EHS regulations, procedures, and practices.
Education/Experience
- HS Diploma or GED required
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Engineering from a four-year college or university or Certified Quality Engineer preferred
- Certified Quality System Auditor preferred
- Minimum 5 years experience in the automotive manufacturing industry
