Job Position Description:
The successful candidate will serve as an essential member of the Safety Department, dedicated to providing all Wendling employees with the safest working conditions in the industry. This will be accomplished by supporting company goals regarding occupational safety, training, and new hire orientations. This position involves coordinating, developing, and facilitating training programs focused on regulatory compliance, workplace safety, CDL truck and mine equipment operation. The Safety Specialist will be the principal representative of the Safety Department as new employees are onboarded and then as they progress through levels of training and qualification. Additionally, this position will support the company’s safety program through site hazard assessments, managing the Field Safety Team, recordkeeping, conducting incident investigations, and administration of company safety programs.

Job Responsibilities:
- The position will be approximately 60% training focused and 40% safety program focused
- Coordinate and facilitate new hire onboarding in compliance with MSHA standards
- Facilitate learning in the field, classroom, and electronic settings, managing all aspects of the learning environment
- In coordination with field trainers and superintendents, provide on-going training, assessment, and task certification of equipment operators
- Conduct site safety inspections, hazard assessments, and mock MSHA audits
- Manage the Field Safety Team and coordinate their task and inspection schedule
- Assist with the implementation and administration of company safety programs including MSHA, OSHA, and DOT recordkeeping
- Continuously engage fellow employees to support safe behaviors and foster a positive safety culture
Required Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain operational terms plainly and facilitate training to adults.
- 1 or more years facilitating safety training and/or adult education subject matter
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain operational terms plainly
- Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in a mining or construction environment
- OSHA 30-hour or equivalent
- Ability to safely work in an above-ground quarry environment and around mining/heavy equipment
- Must have a valid driver license with clean MVR that meets the criteria of company auto insurance policy.
Preferred qualifications:
- 1 or more years facilitating safety training and/or adult education subject matter
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, wheel loaders, haul trucks, rock drills, dozers, etc. preferred
- Valid CDL and heavy truck experience preferred
- Previous aggregate mining experience preferred
- 2 or more years in an occupational safety role preferred
- Experience with MSHA/OSHA/DOT/FMCSA compliance is a plus
- CMSP and/or OSHA 500/501 certification
Working Conditions:
- Approximately 50% of time will be spent in the field and 50% spent in office or classroom environment
