Activity Director - will have proven expertise in the activities they lead. They are passionate about sharing what they know with others, especially children. They have patience and the ability to instruct even the most reluctant learner
Camp Whirlygig is seeking an activity lead in the following specialization:
Science: The ideal candidate will have a passion for science experiments, including designing their own, while also maintaining necessary safety precautions when performing these experiments with children. A background in education or experience working with children is preferred.
Job Duties:
- Design and lead a specialized activity.
- Differentiate instruction for a variety of ages and abilities.
- Communicate supply needs for their activity.
- Communicate with and provide guidance to counselors and campers.
- Assist with other camp duties, such as lunch coverage and special Friday events, if needed to maintain staff/camper ratios and safety.
2025 DATES OF EMPLOYMENT
Staff Orientation:
Saturday, June 21 is a full day for all staff training and orientation.
Sunday, June 22 is a full day for any staff who require CPR/First Aid training or renewal.
Monday, June 23 through Thursday, June 24 are afternoon only trainings.
Camp Whirlygig Day Camp Dates:
Mon. – Fri., July 7th – August 15th, 8:15 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Pre-camp morning program opportunities are available Mon. – Thu., June 23rd – July 3rd.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Camp staff must commit to working all six weeks of camp and the staff orientation week.
- Camp staff must have high energy and want to grow professionally.
- Activity leads are at least 18 years of age.
- Camp staff must attend a comprehensive staff orientation before camp begins to embrace the Camp Whirlygig core program and values and build a cohesive staff team who work in the best interest of the campers at all times. Orientation includes health and safety protocols, risk management, behavior management, intentional program design, emergency procedures, use of resources, care of equipment, and overall knowledge of camp procedures.
- A background check, including a Massachusetts CORI, SORI, and National Sex Offender Public Registry is required.
- Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
- Preferred: CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Experience in a similar role preferred, but not required.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa.

Qualifications:
- Relevant teaching or camp experience
- Strong organizational skills, ability to collaborate effectively, and an appreciation for teaching the whole child
- Demonstrated expertise in the activity they lead
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate with children, families, and staff
- Bachelor’s degree (or currently enrolled in a degree granting program) preferred
