Job Summary:
The Application Engineer is the primary technical interface for Key Account and Target customers. Liaison between plant engineering teams in US and India. In this role, you will directly support sales Key Account Managers as the technical expert on products to secure design and manage the technical support of the customer. Must be able to identify and provide reliable, cost effective solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. Responsible for conceptual design sketches via AutoCad/Inventor 3-D and coordinating the sampling of products to customers. This is a customer-focused position. Our products serve a wide group of customers who are manufacturers of lawn and garden, agricultural, construction, marine, automotive, recreational vehicle and PowerSports equipment.
Essential Functions:
- Works as a team with Key Account Managers, Sales Coordinators and Development Engineers supporting an assigned group of customers in the successful implementation of product requirements.
- Point of contact for customer technical inquires.
- Creates initial conceptual designs to meet our customers’ needs of existing standard product after successful collaboration with our customers engineering group.
- Coordinates with Development Engineers at US and India plants for any new product designs needed for initial conceptual sketches and tooling quotes.
- Works in conjunction with Key Account Managers and Sales Coordinators to quote and sample controls for approval by the customer.
- Will travel to customer locations working with their engineering group to develop cost effective creative solutions for their application requirements.
- Works in conjunction with various internal and external departments to design, prototype, test and sample new products for approval by the customer.
- Works closely with Global Design team in India for application development as needed.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong communication skills (verbal & written) to work with multiple levels of sales, engineering and product managers.
- Strong customer service skills; Positive approach to working with internal & external customer
- Thorough understanding of Windows Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project
- Ability and willingness to collaborate on multidisciplinary teams which include Sales, Project Engineering, Manufacturing and customers
- Ability to create and maintain relationships with internal and external customers
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to set goals and objectives then measures own performance against results
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to be inventive/creative. Can develop new and unique ideas.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering OR technical degree with equivalent successful experience in a similar industry role
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience with customer focused projects
- Experience using 2D and/or 3D software (i.e., CATIA, Autodesk, Solidworks, Pro-E, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with little to no supervision
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in an Application Engineering role
- Prior experience working in a new product development role
- Experience in the design of control systems relating to power sport vehicles (PSV), Outdoor Power Equipment(OPE), Agriculture, Construction or Medical devices
- Experience with electronic and/or electro-mechanical systems
- Experience working with internal Global teams
Special Position Requirements:
- Ability to work outside standard working hours and days for occasional international calls/ TEAMS meetings/ travel
- Have a current US passport or the ability to obtain a US Passport
- Able to travel 30% of time
Physical Demands/ Equipment Used to Perform the Job:
- Available to travel overnight/ outside of normal working hours/ days (30% of time)
- Able to work on a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs to access office & conference rooms with no elevator
- Ability to wear PPE as required in Manufacturing areas of the facility
