Position Summary
WFS is currently looking for a Battering Intervention Specialist. The Battering Intervention Specialist understands, communicates, and applies knowledge and information learned from the courts and county stakeholders as it relates to the WFS Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) and operations. The Battering Intervention Specialist will be responsible for co-facilitating BIP groups in the identified community, with fidelity to the Duluth Model - Creating a Process of Change for Men Who Batter and with facilitating other education classes, as needed. The incumbent will complete assessments with new participants, and complete and document attendance and participation level within the ACJC Data System and within the WFS Data System. The primary function of the Battering Intervention Specialist is to communicate a consistent message of non-violence and respect, which supports the mission and goals of WFS to internal and external audiences within the community and/or county jail. Responsibilities and Duties (full description available at https://wfspa.org )
· Functions as a liaison with WFS and other service providers, including attending meetings as assigned, developing effective relationships, assuring appropriate communication, obtaining and disseminating documentation and information materials, etc.
· Reviews and monitors program policies and procedures, including helping staff to prepare for both monitoring and client file reviews. Ensures the compilation and reporting of all required data.
· Co-facilitates the BIP Groups in the community or in the county jail if needed.
· Participates in the needs and strength-based assessments of court referrals.
· Arranges learning opportunities for those persons identified as participants in intimate partner violence to learn coping opportunities through the teachings of the Duluth Model.
· Work with other team members, County Resource Specialists, courts, and the Department of Human Services (DHS). Monitors to provide or arrange classes.
Qualifications and Skills
Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or other behavioral health discipline. Knowledge of local criminal justice system and Duluth Model are preferred.
Experience: At least 3 years of combined experience working with individuals involved in the criminal justice system, or intimate partner violence/victim services programs, or substance abuse programs, as well as leading therapeutic or educational groups with adults.
Licenses, Certifications & Clearances:
· Act 33/34 Clearances
· FBI Clearance
· Ability to obtain Allegheny County Jail clearance if working in the jail
