Property Summary
The Waypoint is a multifamily community in the Fairlington neighborhood of Alexandria, VA with a total of 81 units. The single structure building consists of three studios, 12 one-bedroom, 49 two-bedroom, and 17 three-bedroom apartments.
Wesley Housing acquired the site, formerly an underutilized parking lot, from the Fairlington Presbyterian Church (FPC) following more than three years of collaborative visioning with City officials, FPC, ad the Alexandria community.
Job Summary
The Janitorial Tech cleans the residential community and assists with grounds maintenance and overall care of the property.
Essential Functions
- Daily cleaning of all common areas including lobbies, laundry centers, hallways and as designated by the Community Manager
- Sweep, mop, dust and vacuum assigned areas, stairways, halls, laundry centers, building entrances and common areas
- Post safety/caution warnings such as ‘slippery’ where needed
- Report concerns, damages, and repairs needed (e.g., vandalism, missing light bulbs, fixtures, smoke detectors, extinguishers) to the Maintenance Supervisor
- Empty trash receptacles and prevent trash or debris from accumulating
- Maintain clean hallways, common areas, garages and parking lot
- Monitor the property throughout shift for trash and debris
- Vacuum and blow clear hallways, parking areas and breezeways as needed
- Assist maintenance staff as needed
- Proactively check-in with the Assistant Community Manager and Maintenance Supervisor periodically throughout the shift, to offer help and provide updates on any property concerns
- Maintain a professional demeanor at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Able to read labels and effectively handle cleaning equipment and chemicals
- Able to work with limited supervision
- Attention to detail
- Recognize and understand safety signs and building warning systems
- Able to interact with residents, staff, and guests in a courteous and professional manner
- Reliable and punctual attendance
Education and Certifications
- Diploma or GED is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual preferred (English and Spanish preferred)
Physical Job Requirements
- This role moves about the residential community all the time
- This role must be able to walk, crawl, stand and crouch down more than half the time
- This role must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) 40 – 75 lbs
- This role may operate machinery and equipment requiring constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (power/ hand operated tools) more than half the time
- This role is regularly exposed to hazardous/chemical materials
- This role may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions more than half the time
- This role may be exposed to non-climate-controlled workspace(s) more than half the time
- This role must be able to identify and distinguish between colors all the time
