Wesley Shelter – Shelter Manager
Wesley Shelter Inc. is the domestic violence and sexual assault response agency in Wilson County. Wesley Shelter has been serving the Wilson community through its many programs since 1983. Services include: 24-Hour Crisis Line, Domestic and Sexual Violence Response, The Edward Y.C. Thorne Safe House, Legal Services, Therapy, Children's Programs, Hispanic Outreach Services, Community Education, Prevention Services, The Clothes Line and more.
The primary roles of this position are to provide a safe, stable and welcoming environment for our Safe House guests during their stay.
Shift Time: 8am to 3:00pm
- Monitor the security of the shelter
- Enforce shelter rules and submit appropriate incident reports to Case Manager.
- Complete intakes on guests.
- Facilitate activities held in the shelter (i.e. groups, shelter meetings, educational opportunities).
- Make appropriate referrals to other staff members as necessary
- Facilitate resident’s completion of their daily progress on their goal plan, including providing necessary transportation
- Organize and carry out shelter cleaning duties, making sure guests know how to do them properly
- Supervise the planning and preparation of meals, making sure all guests know how to accomplish this task when they leave the shelter
- Receive weekly food and supply inventory lists, supervise shopping trips, making sure guests know how to do this when they leave the shelter.
- Give instruction as necessary to guests in budgeting, constructive discipline techniques, job and housing searches, crisis management
- Evaluate the need for shelter repairs, report them to the Office Manager for repair call.
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Provide donation and food bank pick-up as needed
- Make monthly report to Executive Director
- Respond to all other needs as prescribed by Executive Director
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish ~ preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in communal living environments preferably with guests who have histories of domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking.
- Minimum of 3 years providing facilities oversight.
- Strong knowledge of issues related to domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and trauma-informed care.
- Proven experience in supervising and leading a team.
- Excellent communication, computer and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Familiarity with federal and state regulations related to emergency shelters and survivor services.
Additional Requirements:
Ability to be on call in crisis situations.
Flexibility to work evenings, and weekends during emergencies required.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Background check clearance.
Salary: 35,500.00
