POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Assisted Living Director, Resident Services Manager, or designee the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides assistance services, including activities of daily living, to residents in a senior living community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides assistance to residents with their activities of daily living according to their plan of care. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
a. Supports appropriate hygiene services such as bath, shower, grooming, mouth/denture care.
b. Provides physical assistance as needed with routine self-care, such as selecting clothing and daily dressing.
c. Assists with incontinence care and related elimination care activities.
d. Provides assistance with safe transfer and ambulance of residents.
e. Limited nursing care
2. Provides assistance with medication administration per State Regulations.
- Provides oral dosage in the resident’s hand or in another container when the resident requests assistance.
- Applies topical medications.
- Provides assistance with EPI pens when prescribed and by established protocol.
4. Assists in the admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.
5. Other responsibilities as required by the State and/or Director of Nursing.
6. Provides assistance with some light housekeeping and laundry.
3. Maintains records of fluid intake/output and nutritional information.
- Provides for general upkeep of community, office and residents rooms.
- Makes beds, spot cleans as needed.
- Restocks supplies in resident rooms.
7. Provides emotional support and assistance to families.
- Develops and maintains a positive rapport and working relationship with residents and families to assist in solving concerns of residents.
- Engages in effective communications with residents and families; talks and listens in supportive manner.
- Demonstrates support of resident rights.
8. Assists with the delivery of activities and encourages resident participation in appropriate activities under the direction of the Activities Coordinator.
- Provides input to the needs, interests, and abilities of residents.
- Implements daily activities set up by the Resident Care Manager.
- Provides instruction for scheduled classes such as exercise classes and reminds residents of appointments or activities schedules.
9. Provides administrative support as appropriate in such areas as answering phones, record keeping, participating in care planning for residents and giving/taking reports for each shift.
- Gives and takes report on assigned residents at shift change.
- Completes daily charting and record keeping.
10. Complies with Wesley Woods standards of conduct and job-related behavior.
- Attends required courses and training.
- Maintains confidentiality of residents and families, including all verbal, written and computer information.
- Complies with annual employee health assessment.
- Complies with blood borne pathogen procedures.
- Complies with Hazardous Material Management procedures and with body substance isolation procedures.
- Participates in staff meetings as requested.
- Maintains acceptable attendance standards.
11. Maintains current knowledge and understanding of proper procedures for related tasks such as hand washing, vital signs, use of gait belt, body mechanics, scales and others related to specific resident care.
12. Must follow proper procedure regarding the use of medications such as:
- Understanding action to take if there are concerns regarding self-administration of medications.
- How to read prescription labels and common abbreviations
- Providing the right medication at the right time
- Infection control procedures relative to providing assistance with medications.
- Proper medication storage and disposal
- Recognition of side effects and adverse reactions for the specific medications
- Understanding common classifications of medications, typical side effects and adverse reactions
- Proper documentation and record keeping
13. Prepares and delivers meals to residents; may assist dining room staff with serving meals.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification by the State of Georgia as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- The ability to read, write and follow written/oral instructions in English.
- Experience in a retirement community preferred.
- Current CPR and/or First Aid will be required.
- Ability to lift up to fifty pounds, bend, stoop, and twist. Ability to stand and walk 90% of working hours.
