The Investments Office is charged with the day to day management of Wesleyan's endowment. The primary objective of the endowment is to provide enduring support for the academic mission of the University by releasing a sustainable and reliable flow of funds to the operating budget, thereby enhancing Wesleyan's long-term financial stability and supporting excellence in programs, personnel, and facilities.

Reporting to the Director, Operations and Investments, the Data Analyst will work alongside an eight-person investment team managing a $1.6 billion endowment. The Data Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting the operations, reporting, and analytical needs of a multi-asset class investment portfolio.

This position works closely with service providers and internal stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounting reconciliation, cash management, portfolio reporting, and document administration.

Responsibilities Include :

All aspects of investment operations, including :

  • Daily reconciliation of cash and securities transactions with banking and brokerage partners.
  • Monthly reconciliations of valuations and unfunded capital commitments with investment managers and a third-party administrator to ensure data accuracy and compliance with internal policies.
  • Verbally confirm banking instructions with investment partners and administrators prior to releasing wire transfers.
  • Actively monitor and forecast cash flows of a diverse portfolio of global marketable and private equity funds, supporting effective cash management and liquidity planning.
  • In collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, provide requested documents, ensure audit readiness, and support tax-related queries and filings.
  • Oversight of investment-related documentation, such as financial statements, tax documents, and legal notices for streamlined access and compliance.
  • Assist with fulfilling the requirements of administrators in various legal jurisdictions related to onboarding, anti-money laundering compliance, updating lists of authorized signers, and other compliance matters.
  • Adhere to sensitive deadlines; complete special projects as required such as custom report creation, quantitative and qualitative data tracking, development of new processes, and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in the operational due diligence (ODD) of prospective and existing external investment managers.
  • Assist with the development and reporting of a departmental budget.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to develop new skills to support and enhance operational efficiency.

This position is open to the consideration of a hybrid work schedule. Hybrid work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT is available for those who qualify).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of two years experience in investment operations, finance management, accounting, business administration, related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large data sets for analysis and the ability to extract meaningful insights.
  • Acute attention to detail and dedication to meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Knowledge of how to use advanced Excel skills to analyze financial data and support comprehensive reporting.
  • Ability to create presentations that display key findings and insights through compelling PowerPoint presentations.
  • Basic understanding of accounting concepts.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Desire to support a mission driven organization.
  • Adherence to a strict code of ethics and conflict of interest policy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years of experience with financial services or investment operations at a global fund administrator, endowment, or foundation.
  • Keen interest in financial services and investment operations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of key investment accounting principles.
  • Advance proficiency with Excel (experience with complex spreadsheets, writing formulas, use of pivot tables and VLOOKUP, and other similar skills).
  • Demonstrated expertise in proactively identifying, researching, and resolving issues in large data sets.
  • Familiarity with investment software including Bloomberg, Morningstar Direct, Caissa, and Advent Tamale.
