ROLE
We need an experienced Shipping Clerk at the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC). The NMCPHC helps maximize readiness by tackling public health threats head-on. Their team leads efforts in health surveillance, epidemiology, and disease prevention—offering expert support to service members, retirees, and their families. In this role, you will be involved with end-to-end shipping operations—from receiving and packaging to labeling, tracking, and resolving delivery issues. You'll maintain accurate inventory and shipping records, optimize procedures, and collaborate with customers and teams to keep everything running smoothly and efficiently. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and recommend improvements to existing receipt and shipping procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Generate and maintain shipping schedules to ensure timely distribution of materials.
- Receive incoming packages and parcels, verifying contents and coordinating appropriate handling.
- Act as the primary customer contact for resolving shipping-related concerns.
- Identify and log serial numbers of shipped materials to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Organize and prepare shipments, ensuring proper material selection and distribution.
- Manage items rejected by automated sorting and shipping systems, implementing corrective measures.
- Create digital records for each shipment, including relevant tracking and inventory files.
- Properly package, label, and dispatch shipments in accordance with organizational guidelines.
- Generate and affix mailing labels with correct destination addresses.
- Maintain accurate tracking records for registered, certified, and express mail through postal service databases.
- Manage items rejected by automated sorting and shipping systems, implementing corrective measures.
- Create digital records for each shipment, including relevant tracking and inventory files.
- Properly package, label, and dispatch shipments in accordance with organizational guidelines.
- Generate and affix mailing labels with correct destination addresses.

- Verify shipment contents and ensure compliance with labeling and documentation requirements.
- Operate specialized identification and sorting equipment to support shipping processes.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of automated shipping systems.
- Utilize software tools to generate shipping lists, data reports, mailing labels, and update logistics databases.
- Conduct monthly quality control assessments, tracking and reporting shipping accuracy and efficiency metrics.
- Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to improve processes and resolve shipping-related challenges.
- Successfully complete required qualifications and training necessary to support shipping operations, including assessments and examinations as needed
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of personal computer hardware and software technologies as well as local area network systems and configurations for use in transferring raw data over a local area network
- Knowledge of computer databases, especially Microsoft Access, shipping machine software, and ability to understand locally created data management programs
- Knowledge of the U.S. Postal system, FedEx system, and United Postal Service requirements in packaging and mailing of traceable packages to ensure that the sets of dosimeters are accurately mailed to Navy facilities throughout the world
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to qualify as a U.S Mail Carrier and obtain a mail carrier card.
EDUCATION
- Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Health, or a related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with military procedural documents and policies and working in a military environment
- Experience operating the Hershaw Model 8800 TLD Readers
- Able to stand for prolonged periods (~3 hours)
- Able to bend and lift boxes to 15 lbs.
- Able to consistently read small print and labels (9 pt. font)
