Position: Swim Coach - Part-time
Summary:
Under the direction of the Aquatics Program Manager, the Swim Coach is responsible for implementing a comprehensive competitive swim team program which includes fostering skill/student-athlete development and creating enjoyable experiences while balancing responsibilities for student-athletes on the swim teams and in their academics/life. The Swim Coach is responsible for mentoring, evaluating, and developing swimmers of all age groups and ability levels. The coach should provide a safe and friendly environment that promotes growth and development of various levels of competitive swim.
Pay: $22-$25/hour
Hours: 10-20 per week based on the needs of the program
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Experience in aquatic programs as a lifeguard, instructor, or swim coach; other coaching experience is acceptable
- Possess current Lifeguard certification-required
- Possess current Water Safety Instructor certification-preferred
- Willing and able to participate in professional development and gain appropriate certification(s)
- Provide documentation of certification(s) to the Aquatics Program Manager.
- Ability to supervise, manage and lead the competitive swim teams program.
- Ability to share general department program knowledge and answer questions or direct them to appropriate department personnel.
- Ability to interact with children of all ages, parents, and school staff.
- Knowledge of progressive age and level-appropriate swim instruction.
- Passion for running a high quality program supportive of all participants and coaches.
Responsibilities:
- Execute age- and ability-appropriate workouts/training programs; and hold effective, well-planned practices for all Wahoo Swim Teams
- Teach techniques, starts, and turns for all 4 competitive swimming strokes.
- Be present for all swim team practices and competitions
- Use appropriate language to accommodate a wide array of ages, backgrounds and ability levels.
- Communicate program information and expectations to participants, parents, and/or community members.
- Communicate pertinent program information or needs to the Program Manager.
- Assist in organizing, tracking, and updating inventory of necessary swim team equipment needs
- Ability to understand the needs of the community as applicable to the swim teams program
- Ability to facilitate conflict resolution and independently solve problems as needed or in consultation with department administrators.
- Serve as point of contact in event of an incident (injury) or emergency (medical, weather, fire, security, etc.).
- Understand and execute emergency action plans for the facility.
- Help to create and ensure a safe program environment which may include program set-up and clean-up and general cleaning of spills, bodily fluids, etc. as the program dictates.
- Work collaboratively with all other district and department personnel.
- Complete and submit all applicable forms, reports, and payroll documentation as directed by immediate supervisor or department administrator.
- Communicate effectively with the Program Manager through phone, email, or text messages.
- Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager
