Job Summary

Are you driven by the challenge of turning data into powerful insights? As a Data Solution Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in discovering, curating, and delivering data in ways that unlock value for our business. This position will let you leverage your technical expertise in data engineering, exploring multiple environments to locate and prepare the essential data our business partners need.   • This position offers both remote and hybrid work locations. Candidates who reside within 50 miles of one of our office locations (West Bend, Madison, Appleton) will be offered a hybrid work schedule. Candidates who are fully remote (beyond 50 miles) may occasionally be asked to travel to an office location for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and corporate events. *

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Drive the creation and maintenance of high-quality business facing datasets using a variety of data sources and tools to enable the required analytical capabilities and opportunities identified through collaboration with business Data Owners, Data Stewards, Product Owners, analysts, and senior leadership.

Solves moderate data engineering problems in a variety of manners incorporating best practices and integrates data from multiple data sources or functional areas; organizes the data; validates the data; transforms the data as needed; enriches the data; publishes the datasets; and provides detailed documentation to support the use of the datasets. Escalate more complex issues to others.

Identifies opportunities, methods, and tools for productive and efficient data collection, acquisition, and analysis.

Demonstrates a strong understanding of the data and the capabilities it enables; shows intellectual curiosity; has a strong passion and commitment to supporting the analytics process and unlocking the value of data; and has a growth-oriented mindset with a strong desire to learn and stay current on best practices and emerging capabilities to analyze data.

Preferred Experience And Skills

  • 5 years of data engineering experience.
  • 3 years in Property & Casualty Insurance with a thorough understanding of P&C insurance data and core insurance metrics.
  • Proven analytical, statistical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, R, SAS and other various data engineering tools.
  • Exceptional technical knowledge in various fields like software engineering and programming languages.
  • Ability to manage large complex projects or processes independently.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Can work independently or as a team.

Preferred Education And Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU-commercial) designation

The salary range for this position is $120,291 - $180,437.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.  Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
