What are the responsibilities and job description for the GIfted Teacher position at West Bolivar Consolidated School District?
Description of Position: This teacher is responsible for organizing, implementing, and supporting modified instructional strategies to meet the needs of gifted students in gifted and/or basic education classes. Teachers working with gifted and talented students must be able to instruct advanced subjects effectively. The specialty requires that a teacher have excellent communication skills and a high degree of knowledge in their chosen field of study and instruction. Teachers working with advanced students need to utilize techniques that help their students develop productivity, creativity, self-discipline and leadership skills. Teachers in this specialty must be prepared to individualize and modify instruction as necessary and relate to the unique education needs of advanced students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Assessment: The teacher will deliver the instructional programs in an organized and effective manner by:
• Providing quality work that engages students in learning.
• Writing, speaking and presenting information.
• Knowing how to teach the subject(s) to students.
• Seeking a variety of services through community resources and agencies to meet the needs of exceptional students
• Implementing the Mississippi College and Career Ready Standards that reflect the foundational expectations of what ALL students should know and be able to do in each grade.
• Planning, organizing and implementing Challenge Based Learning projects.
• Recognizing and responding appropriately to individual differences in students.
• Developing and monitoring the modified strategies for the students in coordination with the basic and gifted teachers as appropriate.
• Providing specialized instruction to individual and small groups of gifted students when necessary to support learning the content areas.
• Differentiating instruction for a variety of developmental stages and ability levels.
• Planning lessons in a logical sequence.
• Collaborating with other educators to create the most complete educational environment possible for students.
• Participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLC).
• Administering group standardized tests as required.
• Using a variety of assessment techniques and/or models to evaluate student performance.
• Participating in the referral process for students being referred for Child Study.
• Utilizing technology and the devices as a tool in the teaching and learning process.
• Providing an environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free, and conducive to learning.
• Consistently implementing approved disciplinary actions to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
• Relating to parents and other community members in a positive and helpful manner.
• Participating in school and district professional development in order to support school improvement and support student learning.
• Attending staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Enforcing rules and regulations as stated in the teacher and student handbook.
• Adhering to policies and procedures established by district, state, and federal guidelines.
• Maintaining accurate and complete records.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College/University
- Minimum Class "A" Mississippi Teaching Certificate
- Required 207 endorsement(s) to be "Highly Qualified"
