Description:
Under the general supervision of the laboratory director and the phlebotomist supervisor, the phlebotomist assumes the responsibility for performing venipuncture, skin punctures and related procedures under the philosophy, policies, and procedures established by the department.
Position Specifications:
A. Educational Requirements: High School Diploma
B. Experience Requirements: No Experience Necessary
C. Special Requirements: Work alternating shifts, holidays and weekends
D. Excellent communication skills (Both written and verbal)
E. Excellent customer relationship skills
F. Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk up and down two flights of stairs when the elevators are not working.
Job Hazards:
Exposed to hazardous materials, both chemical and infectious, which pose a significant present or potential threat or hazard to human health and which require special handling, processing or disposal because they are flammable, explosive, reactive, corrosive, toxic, infectious, or carcinogenic. All specimens are to be processed using universal precautions.
