Minimum Education:
- Associate's degree, sixty (60) credit hours of higher education or passage of the ODE paraprofessional exam
- None.
- 1-3 years of experience in a daycare or classroom setting assisting in the instruction and/or supervision of children
Essential Functions (includes % of time spent on the job):
- Helps with bus loading and unloading procedures.
- Inspects harnesses, restraints, and other safety devices. Immediately corrects or reports unsafe conditions and/or defective equipment.
- Assists with student mobility needs. Helps students use assistive and/or augmentative devices.
- Follows prescribed medical plans and/or assists students with personal hygiene care (e.g. toileting, catheterization, etc.) as trained by a licensed health care professional.
- Helps feed students. Complies with personal hygiene rules and standard sanitation procedures.
- Renders basic first aid and administers student medications when a school nurse is not available.
- Supervises rest periods when applicable.
- Accompany students on class field trips or community experiences.
- Clean and/or sanitize classroom materials, toys, play and work areas.
- Performs other duties as directed.
- Lift students up to 50 pounds using a 1-person lift, or up to 100 pounds using a 2-person lift, pivot with the weight and transport up to 10 feet. Lifts may be conducted up to 20 times per day depending on assignment.
- Assist students in transition between classes in less than 5 minute passing time by walking, guiding, or pushing student.
- Assist students on steps as they board and exit transportation vehicles. Assistance includes supporting, lifting, pushing or pulling up to 300 pounds.
- Physically restrain students who may weigh up to 300 pounds for no more than 30 minutes at a time.
- Move from seated position on the floor to standing and moving about the classroom at least 15-20 times per 3-hour period.
- Ability to run after and catch a student in flight. Running may occur on hard, soft and uneven surfaces.
- Fine motor skills required for use in pincher grasp and typing.
- Work is generally indoors in an office and school setting.
