The West Central Community Center is recruiting for a full-time WIC Certifier to provide professional nutritional and breastfeeding education and support for our Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutritional program.

The West Central Community Center has been a central location for community support since 1980. We are looking for the right person to help us drive our mission to enrich lives and create community.

This role involves completing certification appointments, providing nutrition assessments and education, and setting nutritional goals for the families we serve. The ideal candidate will have general knowledge of computer programs and office procedures, knowledge of the WIC program, and an interest in lifelong nutrition. A passion for serving children and their caregivers is strongly desired.

20 credit hours in health or a related field is required. A minimum of two years of office experience and two years of customer service experience is required. A general cheerful disposition is appreciated.

Descriptive Summary

The WIC Certifier provides clerical support to maintain program effectiveness and flow. This role involves performing various administrative tasks, processing intake for WIC clients, and providing nutritional and breastfeeding assessments and education—both individually and in group settings.

Core Functions

  • Greets and directs participants at the front counter and via phone, schedules appointments, issues WIC cards/benefits, explains or reads program documents, and provides general nutrition and breastfeeding information.
  • Provides referral support to clients for health and community resources.
  • Conducts nutrition assessments and education based on clients’ eligibility criteria, individual nutritional needs, and cultural preferences. Utilizes motivational interviewing techniques in evaluation and assessment.
  • Provides information to the public and staff regarding rules, regulations, procedures, and processes.
  • Assists clients in completing required documentation for identity, address, and income while maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Stays up to date with DOH standards and USDA requirements, completing all required WIC CPA training.
  • Performs non-invasive hemoglobin testing and earns/maintains a medical assistant license through the WA State Department of Health.
  • Organizes and maintains program files, ensuring electronic and paper files are orderly and current.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role involves using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Some offsite work may be required for outreach, community events, and farmers’ markets.

Physical Demands

This role is largely sedentary but requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. The job may also require standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

  • Typical schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:15 AM – 4:45 PM
  • Occasional evenings or Saturdays may be required

Travel

Frequent travel between Cheney, FAFB, Airway Heights, and West Central locations.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 20 credit hours in community health, women’s studies, health, counseling, social work, nutrition, or a related field
  • Two years of office experience
  • Two years of customer service experience

Preferred:

  • AAS or BA/BS degree in a related field
