What are the responsibilities and job description for the Agri Instructor position at West Central Planning & Development District?
This position is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The contract year is 190 days. Instruction will be in-person, virtual, or a combination. This position may require some travel. The Certified Vocational Teacher is responsible for instructing high school students and adults in vocational education programs, developing, or revising curriculum, maintaining classroom records, writing progress reports, ordering/and or requisitioning supplies/equipment, preparing presentations, attending workshops and conferences, and working to establish/maintain partnerships for internships and paid apprenticeships. The teacher will teach students from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, ages, religions, or disabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE AGRI INSTRUCTOR:
- Instruct students in classroom and individualized, online, and laboratory settings, develop and arrange field trips and guest lectures.
- Evaluate student performance by grading classroom work and observing laboratory skills.
- Maintain classroom records, including attendance records, progress reports, and complete follow-ups.
- Develop or revise the vocational education curriculum by researching educational and professional material, developing course outlines and objectives, and preparing lesson plans.
- Instruct students in the importance of accuracy, neatness, efficiency, resourcefulness, good work habits and in obtaining and maintaining employment.
- Keep abreast of job vacancies, and employment trends, and participate in student recruitment.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the business community to ensure job training goals, objectives, and curriculum align with current business standards and practices.
- Develop partnerships with employers for student internships and paid apprenticeship opportunities.
- Instruct students in subject areas, maintenance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment, codes or regulations related to the subject being taught.
- Attend various job fairs, workshops, and conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Limited travel may be required periodically.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS OF THE AGRI INSTRUCTOR:
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, students, and the public.
- Ability to develop and maintain employer partnerships for internships and paid apprenticeships.
- Knowledge of the functions, operations, and/or maintenance of the various equipment used in the program taught.
- Knowledge of basic welding tools, Agri principles, and basic education principles.
- Knowledge of record-keeping procedures.
- Ability to collect and organize data and information.
- Knowledge of Zoom, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to establish and maintain an appropriate level of authority while creating an atmosphere of support and confidence for students.
- Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Good people skills and sound judgment.
- Ability to communicate with high school students, young adults, and older students with disabilities effectively.
- Ability to evaluate student performance and measure progress.
- Ability to develop or revise vocational education curriculum.
- Ability to prepare lesson plans and instructional aides.
- Ability to make written and oral presentations.
- Familiar with any/all accreditation standards for their programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OF THE AGRI INSTRUCTOR:
- Two years of experience in the vocational area taught
- Teacher certification 010, 218
- Ability to teach welding is required
- Ability to teach Animal Systems is also desired
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OF AN AGRI INSTRUCTOR:
- Certified teacher’s license with five years of experience in the vocational area taught. NCCER certification.
- Must hold, or be qualified to obtain upon hire, a teaching certificate or vocational teaching permit by the Department of Education in the area taught, in accordance with ACA 6-17-401, 6-17-402, and 6-17-403.
